Well this year has been pretty dull but last Sunday I went to an old spot I had been to before.
Went down the trail further and saw this wonderful looking site. Unfortunately all I found here was the pipe stem on top of a rock on the chimney pile, that someone had left there.
Wandered down further even more & found another site. All I dug is what appears to be a bookmark with a man running on it.
About 1pm it was so hot & humid I decided to call it quits & I had a bit of hiking to get back to the car.
The picture of the copper was from an earlier hunt.
Thanks for looking,
Roger

Roger doesn't know what he found !!!:teasing::grin:
Ok Roger , as I was making your curiosity run wild i found a great example of a similar one . your "bookmark" is actually a 1700's era sword or bayonet scabbard hook or stud , this is item that fastens the sword scabbard onto the belt.
here is a close example of one http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showrecords.php?product=40545&title=scabbard-hook&cat=220

awesome Rog! with the looks of those targets they left behind,i'd say there may be more keepers there.I think I know what sites you were at as a mutual freind said he bumped into you and he asked you to stay?

Wow, that's pretty sweet. A lot of times I know what I dig or have a guess. Some research yields the result, but nothing I have found that I couldn't identify myself turned out to be that great. Since Drew mentioned the knob, I have to wonder why they all had a hole on the side perpendicular to the threaded hole.

Thanks Dave! This site I was only at for a little while, was much closer to home. The sites I ran into the other guys was much farther away. At 1st I thought they were you & Todd, LOL! I didn't want to intrude on their hunt so I went down the trail to find a few more sites.

Thanks Drew. Tag is 1914, trying to read the name on it is kind of tough. When I get home tonight I'll see if I can read it better & let you know.

Very nice finds! Keep up the search, diligence pays off!
looking at that beautiful cellar hole again Roger , its a great example of starter cabin that became a larger homesite or a "half on grade , half cellar" type site. with the chimney pile in the middle , you can just make out the "footprint" of where a cabin sat just to the left (the original and starter home) and then they dug a full cellar for the addition with a nice "walk out" from the cellar on the far right corner . nice area Roger looks like there is tons of room to swing a coil.

Huh, I think I have only seen one with a full walkout before. I never would have guessed from the pic about original cabin site. That makes me wonder about my next to last post if I took pics of cellar #3 and the areas for #4 you might have known something more about them. I was going to give up on those sites but thinking to get another detector once it is released. Maybe with a quicker recovery time and a stock DD I might do better closer to the holes, which is where the action is.

Thanks Dan! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Is there some place I can read up more on how these cabins/houses were constructed.
I spent some time there & gridded all 4 sides but came up with nothing but nails. Someone hit it hard is my guess but I don't understand why someone would leave the pipe. Going to hit it up some more but go further out.

Thanks! Would love to see that make the Banner or a nomination for Best Relic Award. Not sure how both of those work.

Roger info like that comes from a lot of "snippets" of information from sifting through many articles and books about colonial life . I wish there was a definitive book about the subject.
