Several old coins and relics from the road

Had the opportunity to do a little detecting this week so spend 2 hours on Tuesday, then about two hours yesterday hitting near a large cellar hole that to date has yielded few finds. Tried some out of the box thinking, detecting the old road and road embankment in front of and across from the homesite. Voila! Hard to imagine all this stuff was just lying inches below where hundreds and hundreds of folks hike and walk their dogs each month. Everything came from a 150 foot long stretch. I had several people stop and ask me what I was finding, but I kept sorta mum, of course being polite. I believe Bucknut found a similar Canadian Bank Token LC a while back? Mine's an 1857 and came out in really good shape. 3 IHs were found within 5 feet of one another, one of which is an 1872 - one of the more uncommon mintages. Also love the conductor's hat badge, that's perhaps my favorite find and also thought the pottery frag with the woman and man on it was quite interesting so I saved it. I'm going to go back on a more inclement day when less folks are walking the trail and grid that whole section of old road. Sweet finds. :lol:....you thought it hard to believe the crotal and toe plate would not be found in the road? Nice banks token too. Since I got so many sites with cellar holes, I might give them one or two tries to unlock things, but if I can't find much I just move to another one. [I'm seriously talking that I know of somewhere between 75 and 100 cellars exist...that's why].

So now you and Dave can both be the conductors of the train!

Yep I found one of those Canadian Bank Tokens about a month ago...since then I have found VERY little! Yours is in nice shape too! Those Indians are nice, especially finding an 1872! Congrats!

I like the way your re thinking your strategy around these hit sites John , its paying off nicely . Congrats on the finds the semi key indian and bank token are great results and i like the conductor hat badge :smitten:.

Exactly, perhaps more fitting that he would be the engineer and I would shovel the coal! Anyhow, I wasn't surprised the bell and toe plate were in the road per se, just that the trail is so heavily used it's hard to imagine nobody has detected that stretch right in front of the hole - or if someone did at some point they did a lousy job. After all I just have an entry level detector (F2).
