Hi all,
Finally had a chance to get out and do some hunting yesterday for about 3 hours in my favorite wooded park in town. Envious of those that have more time, but work and family commitments have kept me busy for the last few weeks. I ended up focusing along the old rock walls and away from the cellar holes this time. Most of the stuff here are common finds, though I did find the assortment of chicken beak protectors (aluminum, c. 1930s) quite unique. Then I hit a 60/70s signal by a large mossy rock (always check around those - folks sat on them!) and pulled out a cool old medallion of some sort - at least that's what I think it is.:happydance01:I've posted shots from several angles. At first I thought it was a bridle rosette, but as the pics show it's ornate on both sides and there's no attachment stud in the center etc. I think it's lead or silver plated lead. Really heavy and hard to imagine someone would have this around their neck, but clearly there's an attachment loop at the top where a chain would've gone. Not completely clear on an approximate date (no makers mark) but my guess would be Victorian, perhaps into the early part of the 20th century. Your input is welcome. Ground has finally thawed completely here in northern New England and I'll be out more regularly in the coming weekends. Thanks for looking and HH.
