Amazing colonial site with Del - 4/9

Dan already summed up our adventures from Saturday, so I'll keep it brief.

Spot #1 looked great with hardly any walls, all by it's lonesome, and even the tiny road into it was mostly overgrown by mountain laurel. I managed a small iron shoe buckle frame, and toasted pewter button near the cellar hole, and that was it. Off we went.

After the off-road adventure, and a march through a marsh and mountain laurel, we came onto what turned out to be a fantastic site. The only fly in the ointment was loggers had left a mess in the area. Despite the sheer amount of items we dug, there's still more there we simply couldn't get at.

Thank you Dan, it's a day of digging I won't soon forget, that's for sure!! And definitely made up for last week's lack of finds in the rain.
Here's the group shot of what I dug. 39 complete buttons, a few pieces, a couple large thimbles, and a cut copper that may be too slick to ID. I spent a few hours yesterday cleaning and tumbling everything.

Wow , Brian those buttons cleaned up really well !!:notworthy: I see a couple that look like ones i also found there but i think you beat me on the fancy designed ones :smitten:some really great examples ! I have many plain with the "London " and wreath backmark suggesting they were pre war of 1812 era types. From all the fancy buttons they were doing very well and after my third or fourth dandy i was expecting a GW type to show up (it just had that type of feel to it) . It was a great total for only about 6 hours of swinging ( i even had two snack breaks in between) . The site definitely deserves another visit.

Huge score at site #2. You really cleaned up in the Tombacs. Nice designs on the dandy's. Dan says you have some footage of the ride there so can we expect to see this is in an upcoming video?

Thanks Dan. I love that floral button. I spent an hour trying to get good pics, then the sun came out and I had to take new pics. :shocked01:

That button is sharp :smitten: i hope you get more video on our return trip , it would be great footage of the jeep wading through that flooded road where the log climbing was :lol:.

on another note just oiled them quick disconnects and they slide nice an easy now :duh:

Fantastic Brian! Can only dream of finding that many tombacs in 1 day. Think my 1 day record haul is only something like 7. Just love the little starburst button. Really a great candidate for the display case.
