We're honing in on one of the first home sites in our county. This was found in the woods about half a mile from the site.
Here's some pics of it cleaned up a little.

After finding the big piece I checked the ares for more signals. Right next to the first hole I got a similar signal and dug up a small piece that's broke off.

Now the question. What kind of gun is it off of? I'm assuming it's off of a flintlock of some sort. Any help would be much appreciated

Yes I believe it is. I scratched it on accident while digging it up. And the scratch has that distinctive brass look to it.

WTG Tim. Huge congrats on getting that in your neck of the woods. I have a replica Brown Bess here in the house and after looking at the two trigger guards, I'm pretty sure it's not a match.

Thanks Dan! I think I may have figured it out.
I believe it's a brass trigger guard off of a Kentucky long rifle. Here's a picture I found online.

Thanks Drew! You'll probably find 20 before I ever find another one around here!

Thanks Al! I think I may have figured it out. We'll have to see what the general consensus is on it. :interesting::crossfingers:

Tim , I would agree the trigger guard is either off a Kentucky or Pennsylvainia long rifle.
