Got out to a park I've pounded hard in the past where I found an 1870s harness buckle guard and a few other things which were all deep and at the edge of detection range. Dug LOTS of holes today and got duped by many large bent nails and wire coils. :shocked02:
But I got 1 really beautiful consistent deep sounding signal. Took a while to get down to depth, but at about 11 inches I found a neat old pocket knife!

They sure are. Bane to every machine, esp flat stock iron. Hit that flat stock and I can get a repeatable dime signal only to be disappointed. Bent nails at least are small enough in the sweep pattern that to me just seems like either a bent nail or a really iffy target. So, since I don't bother, I may be actually giving up a few finds but ignoring them.

Few of my nicer Shoe buckles sounded like a bent nail or worse , you pass them up and your leaving them for someone else Jim .

I did get one other copper item, sort of looks like a top bezel off a ring that would have held a good sized oval stone. Hit that at about 10 inches as well. But it's pretty corroded and have to try a heavy cleaning to maybe got any idea. Most likely going to be another whatsit.

It's a nice start Chris!
It sounds like your already learning it's little nuances.
Congrats on the knife!

Ahh yes, the bent nail. The detectorists Achilles heel!
