Hi all,
Got out for about 2 hours in the field before work today. Rough going because of z lot of corn stalks still standing and lots of road trash, mainly cans. The only really notable finds were a part of a lead cross which was folded and broke while cleaning the mud off and trying to figure out what it was. The other is an old pocket knife. Thought I had an old button but it turned out to be a half round piece of lead.

What I like is ... NO PULLTABS!😃
Is that possibly half of a musketball?

No musketball unfortunately. Not exactly round, more cow pie shaped and almost exactly 1 inch in diameter.
No pulltabs this time, but lots of cans and can slaw.

I agree with Tim. Maybe a fired musket ball. Can you see any evidence of a mold seam or rotational impact scarring? Are you hunting a house site in that field?

Not a musket ball. Very smooth, so it was molded that way. Also, no oxidation so not very old.

Far as I can tell never a home there, but is situated between 2 old farms.

Follow up: it appears the crucifix is likely the oldest find and quite rare being made of lead. Reading the histories and documentation on identifying them, use of lead for crucifixes ended in the mid 1800s. Also having the second figure below is apparently very unusual.

the crucifix looks like pewter or another cast white metal , congrats on the finds Chris

I'm surprised you have a field that hasn't been disc or planted yet ..

Been too wet to get into any fields. Only parts of certain high fields are even accessible by foot.

You mentioned cans, my experience is that the closer to any roads the more cans. Keep digging away.
