I had a run of interesting coppers this week. This one has a few fleur de lis stamped on it. This is a seriously old site. Any ideas why they'd do this or what coin it is? It is 29mm. Thanks and happy 4th! :usaflag:

Very cool, Drew! I've never seen a fleur de lis counter stamp before. Perhaps it signifies French citizenship or allegiance? Terrific find! :clapping:

Thank you Tony! I just read it is a "countermark" which is a stamp made by another government to allow that coin to circulate in that country as well. A fleur de lis was used in Puerto Rico of all places in the 1800s but this coin is much older.

Wow what a great find! So much history. It looks like a KG II. I wonder if the counterstamp has anything to do with the French Revolution in 1793? A sign of allegiance perhaps? Please keep us posted if you learn anything more about it. Best wishes and HH Dave.

Definitely agree with Dave. I can see Lady Brittania on the back and the left facing bust on the obverse.
Its a "young head" King George II as Dave said , it would date from 1727 to 1739 . it has what looks like three Fleur de lis similar to what the Liard coins have . Very interesting coin Drew !

Another cool find Drew. I love coins that have a personality.

Grats on the oddly-counterstamped copper, Druzy. You've had a bit of luck lately, it seems. Def the KG2 like Dan said, but close to the fleur de lis of the Liard... the one on the center should be over to the left edge of the coin.
