This is a distinctive button with a USA eagle. Nothing on flat front. One piece. Could this be military? Thanks!
PS I saw five real eagles perched and flying around a tree the day I found this button! :shocked01:

I read somewhere that it was not uncommon for English button makers to make buttons for the US Govt in hopes of getting a contract. When the deal fell through, they simply put the shank on the design side of the button and the front was now just plain. Yours appears to lack any wording that one typically finds on back marks so maybe that is the case with your button? Perhaps someone will chime in with a better ID. A great find nonetheless, congrats.

it wasn't long after the Revolutionary war and the war of 1812 that British goods took a hard rejection from the newly independent American people so English businesses and entrepreneurs used some deceit to sell their goods . Button manufactures design backmarks to look or imitate American makers by using stars , eagles and even similar wording to describe the gilting , similar tactics were used on other goods as well with packaging. This new advertising continued from a couple of decades and did work.
