View Full Version : LC and Gilt button
Got out this morning with Charlives(Drew) to the spot where he found his fugio. We got there early and a first things seemed promising. I got the pewter button rather quickly, probably in the first ten minutes of hunting and then it happened. The quiet hum from my dfx for the next 4 and a half hours. lol no metal to be found anywhere, only two signals i got in 4 hours were bullet casings. Then when it was almost time to leave, we both said lets give it one more push for a little while, toward where Drew found the Fugio. Good choice. Thats when I was able to find this 1819 or 1818 LC. I put a little olive oil on it to shine it up some but I still can't tell. Great weather ticks were all over me probably like 25 at least, I stopped counting after 15. Thanks for looking HH

I am really surprised to see how nicely that thing looks. It was almost toast in the field. :clapping: :clapping:
It is definitively an 1818 coin. :)
Hey- NOT ONE TICK! (not one keeper either :-\)
hey Brandon , that largie has some very pretty patina ( great color) . is there gilt on the pewter button?

Yes Dan first time i dug a pewter button with gilt on it. It's heavy for a button.
i'm sure it is Brandon , mostly made of lead but you don't see to many gilted ones . quite an oddity and nice find , you can either pray it with hairspray , or mix some elmers glue and water and dip it . both of these will preserve it better so it doesn't really dry out and flake apart .
