Just joined the sit I have always been interested in metal detecting, but have yet to start. I am finally planning on taking the plunge and starting small. My family thinks I am nuts and doesnt understand. I am planning on purchasing an ACE 250, I reside in southeastern Wisconsin, any advice is greatly appreciated. I have been reading up on the subject and viewing many videos of hunts on youtube.

Welcome to American Detectorist, Coinhunter13! Glad you have joined us here! :clapping:
Many people hunt with an ACE 250, from everything I have read it is a nice machine. Some of our members here such as Silver Star have had great success with an ACE 250. It sounds like you are already doing the things you need to do to educate yourself: Read the various metal detecting forums and watch demonstration videos on YouTube.
Please let us know how you do on your first hunts and keep us posted on your progress. Best of luck!

Welcome from southern Nevada.
The Ace 250 is a nice machine that has helped many folks find some really nice stuff. Just remember, It's not the wand, it's the wizard. You've already started with the research which puts you well on the way.

Welcome from Kentucky! |:cheering:
I think your family will understand once you start pulling some neat stuff from the ground  That's what happened to me.
It's the people who drive by when you're hunting in the snow and rain, who will still think your nuts lol Some people seem to think we're all we're looking for pennies and kids' lunch money...
It's amazing the variety of things we can find :happydance01:

Thanks everyone again for the encouragement, I hope to start hunting in the coming weeks, I have done some research and have a few sights that look promising. one is a homesite from the 1870's the house is no longer there, another is a site where a one room school house sat from 1868 till about 1930's (open field now) and I have also scoped out about three public beaches. just waiting on final permission's on the private sites. I will let you all know what I find on my first hunt!

Hey eric since you are new too but have some time under your belt on me, do you have any recommendations, I am now considering going with the AT pro right off the bat, since it has both land and water capabilities. HH

Hey Coinhunter13,
My first and only detector is tha AT Pro. I research for a couple of months before deciding on this one. The main reason is because I will have the opportunity to hunt a variety of terrain. I' currently hunt parks and some woods, but plan on moving to Florida in a few years and would like to attack them beaches. Now I have a sister-in-law who lives in Denver, and when we go to visit, I would like to work some creeks for them gold nuggets. Last month we went to visit family in Scotland, and I had to take my detector with me, well more times than not, they get a lot of rain in the UK and it rained 9 out of the 12 days I was there. Since the AT Pro is water proof, I pressed on. I do not have the water proof head sets, but the Scottish detectorest I was with, wrapped a plastic bag around each ear piece, and six hours later, in the rain, I had no problem. So Coinhunter, if you can swing it, I would go with the Pro. If your not wanting and water type hunts, I heard the Ace are great. Give me a shout and let us know when you do decide on one. Good hunting to ya thumbsup01. Eric

Well finally picked up my pro pointer yesterday, and had time to go out in the backyard this morning for a little bit and try it out. within the first 5 minutes I had a good dime signal, dugout the plug, checked the bottom of the hole with the pinpointer and nothing, next checked the plug and recieved a really good steady tone, stuck my finger in and out popped a kids ring, fake pearl, missing side stones but Sterling, now I can't wait to hit some of my researched areas!!
HH, Kelly
