    Weekend Hunts

Hey everyone, The weekend was hunt-able in the afternoons...so I was able get out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The ground was frozen in some areas of a park I was at but I could dig most targets. The other site was wooded, so no problem. The wheats are all 1920s, except a 193? and a 54...

    DD vs Concentric

Happy New Year, everybody! :beerbuddy: I hope this year is an improvement. :crossfingers: My first detector was a concentric coil Bounty Hunter. Conceptually, I understand the differences (layman) between DD and concentric, but I don't think I ever heard anyone say that one advantage of...

    VDI Gold Bands

Everyone says gold VDIs nickel-low... but why do gold wedding bands ring up up much higher? I only found two, and both ring up a bit higher than zincolns. I understand the "coin" shape helps up-average but that much? That I'm posting this at 4:15 on New Years Eve tells you something

    No Mercs, Jeff!

Last week's foot of snow was gone after we got two additional inches of rain the other day. Only the top few inches of soil were frozen today, so I was able to get out for some digging. The ground was saturated and ready to be detected. I hit a new field for a few hours. The Barber was the...

    Small Bucket Lister

A while back I found a little hot spot that produced some very beat-up silver. During that hunt I dug a normal beat up nickel...it sounded around 20, much higher than the 13 nickle vdi on the nox...but not silver high. I'm thinking it might be a coin spill as the higher vid had me...

    Hot Spot

Monday afternoon we shook off the effects of the "big snow storm" that petered out and I headed down to a swimming area near me. It's on odd site in that the pond was made by a dam built after WW1 on an 1800s poor farm, which was built on a 1600s farm. So I've pulled everything from 1600s...

    Hand Grenade!!!!

This afternoon a site I'VE HIT years ago was being detected by another who found a live hand grenade! The bomb squad came and detonated it causing houses to shake! I probably went over it and deemed it a can  Seriously though, be careful out there...

    Had an Hour Yesterday

Season's Greetings, Detectorists, I got out of work and had to stay in town for a while so I went down the road to hit the outskirts of a town ball field. I've been there some years ago with dry dirt and my T2. I remember digging some wheats. So I wanted to give it a go with wet dirt and my...

    Little Button

Hey everyone, I find these little guys from time to time. They show up at old timey sites but look plastic. Anyone know what they're made of...or what they buttoned?

    Rain Was Helpful!

Snagged an 1819 Matron Head on the way home today. 100 yrds from where I found the NJ last week. The fields are alive with the sound of coppers!

    It's a Draped Bust, I swear!

My theme this week is beat up coins. I got out for a few hours yesterday and 3 hrs today. The cool sticker was given to me by a guy who stopped his truck when he saw me detecting. He came over, asked a few knowledgeable questions, gave me the sticker and invited me to his meetings. I told him...

Bucket, Worst Coins Ever Dug AND DATED

I've completed my state coppers set. I have CTs, VTs (country), MAs, and now a NJ. Can anyone see the date? The seated dime is 1853 with arrows  ...and the Indian is not datable...I'm guessing it's an 1877 ;)

Advice for Beg 14 yr Old

Hi friends, a colleague of mine wants to know which detector to get her 14 yr old son who's never detected before. They have decent means and I'd guess he's a pretty smart kid. Any tips? Thanks!!

    Since Last Post

I've been sick on and off for a few months now (non-covid). When feeling well, I've been hitting a college commissary from the 1960s and a few of my colonial corn/hay fields. Lots of stuff, have at 'em. Drew

    Detector on Simpsons

I've been watching some Hulu and did not know in the last episode of season 9 Bart and Lisa spend the sub plot detecting. It reminds me of when I happened upon They Would Be Giants' song about detecting, also 20 yrs late. Any other detecting in pop culture???

    4kHz Added in Nox Upgrade

Hiya, Nothing exciting this week except that I received the Minelab update which supposedly added some stabilization to the VDI and 4kHz as a stand alone freq. The multi-frequency is the big dog on the Nox but I've found my self having success using only 5KHz at my pounded parks/cellar holes...

Bench Test Dug Large Copper Coins

Hey Everyone, The past few days I bench tested most of my colonial and early America coppers to see if a pattern might emerge. I'm just that bored  I used my T2 because it has a better bench VDI than the Nox. It's on a 100 scale. *English colonials, including Irish coins. No smaller...

    No Hunting This Week

I was not able to get out this week, but the week before I found a sweet colonial neck stock buckle  A park produced another Kennedy half, and a beat 1694-1704 William 3rd. This is only my 4th Kennedy ever...I found two in two days some years ago and two within a few weeks this go...
