Merchant countermarked Charles IIII Half Reale!

Thanks! I'm trying to find information on the "O.D" countermark. At this point, I know it is listed in Brunk as a merchant countermark but the book is very expensive and I'm hoping one of my coin collector buddies has a copy. I would love to know why Brunk attributed the mark as a merchant. I...

Merchant countermarked Charles IIII Half Reale!

Thanks Danny, and, thanks for the tip on how to clean it. I would have never thought of that and I am really super pleased with the result. It's perfect. I can't wait to see all of your finds cleaned up. You had an epic day too. Does this shirt make me look fat?

Merchant countermarked Charles IIII Half Reale!

Got out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne and hit a couple of sites. The first site was very remote, small, and probably not inhabited very long. Unfortunately, whoever lived there in the 1700's was probably dirt poor and left us no coins or buttons. He left nothing at all except for iron. The...

Had to share the first find with my new XP Deus!

Who said there's a learning curve? First hole in the most iron infested part of my yard with an 11" coil! The Deus sniffed it out clear as day about six inches down. There's more iron in that little patch of my yard than in the Titanic!

    1883 Seated Dime!

Got out Sunday with several friends for some colonial cellar hole digging. It was a fun day but I didn't get my coil over anything earlier than the mid to late 1800's except for one little flat button. The find of the day for me was unexpected. I found a beautiful 1883 Seated Liberty Dime next...

1757 - 1774 British Royal Navy Captain's Dress Cuff Links!

Hammered cellar holes seems to be the norm so it doesn't bother me. There is always something that was missed. We have made some stellar finds at hammered sites. It does make the non-hammered sites so much more exciting when you found one. We played golf at Rolling Meadows (Hills?). I played...

    Past Month

Great finds! Yes, I found a pair of "colonial" cuff links with stones. I think they are late 1700's or early 1800's but probably the latter.

1757 - 1774 British Royal Navy Captain's Dress Cuff Links!

Got out yesterday and hit a new colonial cellar hole permission. Site was stingy and had, obviously, been dug before but not very recently. I got a few odds and ends but the Find of the Day was this pair of Solid Silver 1757 - 1774 British Royal Navy Captain's Dress Cuff Links. These are...

Finds from the past 2 hunts

Congrats on those awesome finds. The button with the Eagle backmark? It's not a back mark. It's a reversed Navy button listed in Albert's as NA-75B. Early 1800's. The theory is that a Navy Contract was cancelled and the button maker was stuck with a bunch of buttons so he put the shank through...

The collapsed cellar hole chimney copper spill!

How about a pic of the backs? Not much to look at on the backside. (That's what she said too :hystericallaugh:) The Hibernia has some stubborn green crusty spots on the reverse and the only designs showing on the Liard are a couple of the Fleur de lys' and you can barely make out the "A" for...

The collapsed cellar hole chimney copper spill!

Hi everyone! Got out with Del on Sunday for our first cellar hole hunt in a month due to the weather. It was great to get out and though the day started slow it ended with a bang. The weather was beautiful and it felt so good to not be freezing while detecting. The first site we hit was a very...

Rare New York Militia officers belt plate

Congrats on that beautiful plate, Dave. That had to be a rush. The GW day last year was the best digging day ever for me because all three of us found an Eagle. The only thing better would have been if Jim had found one.

1834 Running Boar Hard Times Token!

The ground is frozen in spots and, especially, around the rocks of the cellar holes. This past Sunday I probably spent over an hour on the lip of a cellar hole chopping out two buttons and a spoon fragment. At first, I walked away from the one of the targets but it was just too good of a signal...

What other hobby do have besides detecting?

I don't play as much as I did a few years ago but I still love the game. This is a photo of the first Hacker's Championship from last year. Yours truly, Del, won the inaugural match. I made a Hole-In-One a few years ago at 6:20am. I usually tee off very early when I play. I have no idea how to...

1834 Running Boar Hard Times Token!

Got out on Saturday for a few hours before the storm hit. My friend, Rick, invited me to hit a few mountain sites. It was a steep climb at first but when we got to the top it leveled out nicely. The ground was hit or miss. In some spots it was frozen solid and I spent 30 minutes on one target...

Cast counterfeit 1746 King George II Half Pence

Thanks for looking. I found this cast counterfeit King George II Half Pence on Sunday. I was detecting an old colonial cellar hole with Danny (Del), Rick and Ron, and, interestingly, three coppers were found with two of them being counterfeit. We hit several sites and hiked for many miles only...

My first 1700's US Large Cent! 1798 Draped Bust!

Hi everyone. I got out with Dave Wise and Rick Yingling on Sunday for some cellar hole hunting. Danny LaMontagne gave us permission to hit a hole that he had never been to before but looked interesting. :wow:You just can't have a better friend than Danny. That turned out to be the best hole of...

    Confederate Button and copper!

Calabash, it looks like Tice CSC 215A3 (Albert's CS 130). The book states your backmark would be unusual for this button.
