Before and after electrolysis photos of an iron shoe buckle.

I am a complete novice and only recently learned how to perform electrolysis by watching YouTube videos. I started out using 9 volt batteries but quickly learned that (a.) It takes much longer to perform the electrolysis and (b.) You use a LOT of batteries. I searched Ebay and bought a new old...

    Post electrolysis preservation

I'm a complete novice and only recently learned how to use electrolysis through watching YouTube videos. My method, at this time, is to perform the electrolysis and let the piece dry for about 30 minutes. That may not be enough drying time. I then coat the pieces heavily with Rustoleum Rust...

Before and after electrolysis photos of an iron shoe buckle.

Before and after electrolysis photos of an iron shoe buckle I found at the Pine Tree Shilling site. I like to conserve my iron relics and this one is very special because it dates to the time of the Shilling (1680 - 1700) and is probably made of English iron.

    The find of a lifetime!

Got out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne to do some Colonial cellar hole diggin. I'm still in shock and it hasn't sunk in yet but I pulled out a bucket list coin yesterday. I would like to thank Danny LaMontagne for letting me tag along with him. Danny is the best friend a guy could have and...

    Nice day to dig colonial!

Got out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne to dig some colonial cellar holes. The sites were very stingy but we both managed a good find and, most importantly, it was a great day out with my friend. It's nice to find that great coin or relic but there's nothing like discussing history, and eating...

    Really liking my electrolysis project!

I have been wanting to do electrolysis on some of my iron relics for some time. I watched YouTube videos for several weeks and soaked up the information. I started out with a home made 9 volt battery set up but just bought a new (used) manual charger for my bigger relics. I like the results so...

I am really enjoying the Go Pro camera....................

I have metal detected for over 22 years but just started making some short videos of my finds with a GoPro. I'm really enjoying the GoPro camera that my wife bought me for Christmas a few years ago. It's cool to have a video of the day you made a good find...

    My first Massachusetts State Copper!

Got out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne for some Colonial Cellar Hole Digging. It was a beautiful day and I found my first Massachusetts State Copper, dated 1787, with my White's MXT Pro! I also found a very ornate shoe buckle fragment and a very unusual, unfinished, child's size shoe...

My first New Jersey Colonial Copper!

Thanks everyone. I used a cleaning method that I learned from Danny LaMontagne. I heated the coin up multiple times with a heat lamp and gently removed the concretion from the obverse. This took multiple attempts and patience. The reverse was easy. It must have been the side protected from the...

My first New Jersey Colonial Copper!

Hi everyone! I went out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne. We hiked for miles and miles, up and down ridges, through swamps and mountain laurel to hunt for colonial relics and cellar holes. I found my very first New Jersey Colonial Copper, dated 1787, at a very small and old site. It was about 10...

Yesterday's digs. Hello KG III !

Yesterday's digs with Danny LaMontagne and Brian Bari. Everyone had a great day and it was good to be out in the woods. Highlights for me were a KG III and what I think is a brass candle snuffer. Anybody else got any ideas on that piece?

My son made his first great find yesterday!

I bought my son a detector for Christmas last year. Yesterday, he made his first significant find. He found a late 1800's to early 1900's piece of coal scrip from Monarch Coal & Coke Company in Wilmont, KY. This token is rare as hen's teeth! This was a very small mine when men mined the coal by...

My first pair of cuff links!

Thanks John! Yes, we are die hard Clemson fans! We live, breathe and eat Clemson Football! That was one heck of a game! It was looking bad for the Tigers in the first half but we came back in the second half and pulled off a miracle!

My first pair of cuff links!

Went out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne and Brian Bari. It was a great day for detecting even if it was just a little chilly with the wind. It was also Brian's 48th Birthday and I am so glad I got to share it with him. I found my first pair of cuff links at the first cellar hole yesterday! I am...

My very first Connecticut Copper! WOW! I can't believe it!

Sunday was a beautiful day to dig some colonial with Danny LaMontagne and Brian Bari. I only had one significant find among the four sites we hit but it is absolutely gorgeous and my very first Connecticut Copper ever! I found it at the first site we visited and the rest of the day I was on...

I can't believe I found my very First Draped Bust and a copper spill!
