    Found A Very Cool Ring

Here are my finds from the past couple of weeks. I got out on October 27 to some farm fields and again on November 4 to a couple of private yards in town. The highlight of my recent finds was this sterling silver "Son In Service" ring that a mother would wear to signify that she had a son...

Fun Day of Detecting With Two Forum Members

This past Saturday I met up with Digger Don and Noah (Tim) for a day of detecting. We all had some decent finds on a very windy day. Yes, we did detect this 1850s yard, but apparently it had been pounded previously. Here is my take for the day: 1891 Indian Head 1914 Buffalo 1917 Buffalo...

    Thanks to an unknown Detectorist

Good job! How generous of the unknown detectorist to leave a Merc for you! I like the drink token too! Does it say anything on the other side? I found that exact same play coin in a school yard in 2013. It has a portrait of FDR on it. You're right, it is a tiny coin!

Great day with Digger Don and Noah!

Great bunch of finds! I love that token, I've never seen one like it before. Very cool! The toy car is a Hot Wheels Red Baron. (Missing some parts.) :-)

I Traded The Roman Goddess Head for This...

OMG Dave! I wish you would have contacted me first! I would have traded you one of my gold coins for it! LOL! In all seriousness, it would have been a tough call for me but a hammered gold coin would be hard to say no to! It is a beautiful example. How big is it? I think you made a...

Indians, Barbers, and 3 Merry Widows

So THAT'S what that thing is! I have found several of them over the years and never knew what they were. Mystery solved. THANKS!

Indians, Barbers, and 3 Merry Widows

This past Saturday I met up with Digger Don for some door knocking in a small town. We had limited success but still managed a few keepers. The 3 Merry Widows tin was a first for me. I think it must be a later example. I ended up with three Indian Heads, 15 Wheat Cents, 1 Barber Dime and 1...

    Any ideas?

Me and my hunting buddy both found one of these last weekend. They appear to be copper and are about an inch across. My buddy's clearly says "PATD AUG.11.1903" on it. Any idea of what these might be?

First US Coin Heads to Philadelphia for Display

Isn't it beautiful? The finest known surviving example of the first coins made for circulation by the young United States Mint in 1792 will return to Philadelphia for a homecoming display, August 14-18, at the 2018 World’s Fair of Money. The small silver coin with huge significance was...

Saturday Silver with Digger Don & Noah

I had surgery on May 21 to repair a herniated disc in my back. When Digger Don texted me this past Friday to go detecting I decided that I had convalesced enough. :-) I met Digger Don and Noah at an old courthouse at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. Finds were few at the courthouse so we started door...

    Ford, Lincoln and Mercury

Regarding the glass object, I guess all I had to do was Google the patent number. Light Reflecting Device. Patent applied for by Nat Colortype Company on May 17, 1930. Patent published on August 16, 1932. Invented by Evan P. Bone.

    Ford, Lincoln and Mercury

On Saturday (yesterday) I met up with Digger Don and Digger Al for some metal detecting. When we started out at an old 1891 court house the temperature was only 26 degrees. Brrrrr! But the signals were frequent in this court house lawn and the finds made us forget about the cold. At this...

Got my oldest US coin yesterday!

It came out of the ground with that dark color. I kind of like it that way. Here's the unsuspecting 1864 house where I found it. The owner was super nice.

Got my oldest US coin yesterday!

I cleaned up the 1825 Large Cent as best as I could with a toothpick and gave it a coating of Ren Wax. It has some corrosion on the obverse and the unfortunate hole, but I am still thrilled with it!

Got my oldest US coin yesterday!

Yesterday, March 3, I met up with Digger Don at an old town that isn't too far from me. All of these finds were from door knocking permissions. Me and Don had a really fun day of detecting! The weather was gorgeous and we made a few interesting finds. At a house built in 1864 I found my...

    Minelab equinox 600

I hate to be the one to tell you this, Drew, but you will never get used to those Minelab tones. They render any metal detector useless. You may as well pack that Equinox up and ship it to me and I will dispose of it properly for you. (Is he falling for it?)
