    Kicking myself!

Hey all! I wrote a while back about detecting a permission at a brewery site that dates back to the early 1800s which pretty much turned out to be a big bust. But I never thought about detecting the brewery site that I currently work. Granted there isn't a lot of open ground, but one open...

    New Sites

Great finds, and wish you the best of luck on the new sites. As for the screw looking thing I think that may be a vacume relief valve. Threads into a pipe or tank and if the vacume overcomes spring tension it'll pull the stem down to let air in. Used a lot on tanks to prevent them from imploding...

    Looks So Familiar

One other thing that comes to mind is it could be a cane cap somewhat like in the photo below and formed to the contour.

    Old rope thimble?

Hello Thib and welcome to the forum! Yes, that's a rope or cable thimble. Used anywhere they have premade lifting cables (or ropes), often having a lifting hook attached with a threaded clevis at the end. Shown is a modern example of a cable sling.

Finally got out to the beach, but what is it?

Hello everyone! Finally got out for a couple hours Saturday morning to my local Lake Michigan beach. First thing that appended was seeing a whole bunch of people detecting even though it was just past sunrise. There was a woman who passed me up as I was headed out and she told me not to bother...

    other hobbies

Great post, and lots of cool hobbies everyone! Love the turning, although I've never done wood lathe stuff myself. Metal work is part of my job so never really do anything artistic. Cars on the other hand are always a favorite of mine, whether on the highway, twisty backroads, or on the track...

1700's trade silver and other relics at my cottage!

Wow, you really hit the jackpot! I highly suspect you stumbled onto an Indian pow wow site. A camp would likely have a lot more daily items such as arrowheads, cooking items, etc. while the more decorative items would be safely stored away. Those jingle cones are a big clue to the location's use...

    First hunt of 2022

Hello all, I got out as promised to hunt the old brewery grounds. Unfortunately it didn't go anywhere near as good as hoped. Pretty much skunked actually, and yeah, I did find quite a few pull tabs and a couple old beer cans. I did hunt a few areas that gave a few iffy signals but it turned...

    Warmer weather finally?

Hello all, Hope that everyone has started to finally see some warmer weather and softer ground. I'm sitting here looking at the last remnants of snow on the grass in the shady areas wondering how hard the frost is underneath and chomping on the bit to get out for my first hunt for this year...

    Great news, awesome permission!

Hello everyone! Just got some great news today. I was able to speak with the plant manager of Molson Coors here in Milwaukee and got permission to detect the brewery grounds come spring once everything thaws. As far as anyone knows it's virgin ground, and some of the buildings and yards have...

    Charlotte NC

Hello all! I just got word from my employer that hopefully sometime in the next few months I will be headed down to a bit South of Charlotte for training. I've never hunted the area and would appreciate some tips, ideas of public areas to hunt, and info on any local laws I may run afoul of...

    I'm back!

Hello everyone! I know it's been quite a while since I've been posting, so thought to drop an update on what I've been up to the past year or so. The start of 2020 really put me in a bad place. Lost the lease on my home suddenly (no fault of my own-owner decided to sell and gave me 30 days...

    Hoping for permission....

Hi all, I havent been out but once this year with the corona stuff and crazy work schedules, bad weather, etc. But I recently started a new job with Molson Coors, formerly Miller brewing. Speaking with one of the management team today, I mentioned the desire to detect the historic 1855...

    Travel tips?

Hi all, I looks like I'm headed to NE Arkansas at the end of the month for a job interview. I'll be in the Blytheville area, which is near the Mississippi river. Apparently they didn't have a lot of CW activity other than a few raids nearby. I would appreciate any tips for places to hunt in...

    Rings!

Hi all, I finally got out for a few hours yesterday to battle the wet parks. I tried a more modern park since it was close to home and I was dying to get out. Haven't had much opportunity lately since heavy rain always seemed to coincide with my days off. A few minutes in I was surprised...

    Been a while...

Hi all, Been quite a while since I've posted, mostly due to the fact I haven't found anything. :dontknow: Seems like work and the weather mostly were against me getting out much this year. But on Sunday I went to a small town about an hour away with my Mustang club for a morning Cars and...

    Too wet to detect, so....

Hey everyone! Been so much rain the past couple months the ground has been saturated and waterways flooded. Also been working a ton of extra days which seem to fall on the few sunny days. So with a few extra dollars from the overtime, I did a little shopping and ended up with a new ride as of...
