Old baseball field = 2 silver dimes

Haven't posted in awhile due to many rounds of golf but I found an old ball field from at least the 40's and decided to check it out. The Barber was definitely a surprise.

Big silver (also medium and small)

I went looking for an old scout camp my friend said he used to go to, closed since 1985 or so, about 50 miles away in the woods of NW Ct. Well, somebody bought the land and put some cows on it so I had to go to Plan B (I didn't have a Plan B by the way)! A couple of miles down the road I saw a...

    Opening day silver

After 5 months of miserable winter, I finally got out today. The new hip I had installed in November feels great so it's time to dig! I went to an old school in South Windsor today. There was nothing and I mean NOTHING in the entire athletic field ( Lee probably emptied it out years ago lol ) so...

    Finally off disabled list

I'm sufficiently healed from hip replacement surgery 5 weeks ago so I decided to go to a nearby park and hunt in the baseball field before the ground freezes. Found 2 Rosies, '52 and '59, 4 wheaties, a Kennedy half and $5.50 in clad in a 2 hour hunt. Hoping to get out again but time is short. .

    A little pre-op silver

Hi folks! It's been a rough summer due to bum hip ( to be replaced in 2 weeks). But I couldn't resist limping around a friend's circa 1900 house about a mile from my house. 58-d Rosie, 42 Merc, sterling cross, half a pocket watch case, 7 wheats, 1952 dog tag, a non-silver religious medal and $3...

Nice old cent ( if you ignore the holes)

Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while due to the 70 rounds of golf I've played this year since retiring but I'm getting the itch again so I got permission to detect the yard of an 1850 house. The 1847 braided hair cent was 8 inches down under a root and I sweated big time to get it out ( I only...

Who needs a detector, just go to Subway.

Last 2 days of shopping yield : (1) 1946 wheatie in change at Subway and (2) a beautiful 1945 wheatie at Lowe's that looks pretty darn nice, almost brand new with a lot of original luster.

Short hunt and a little silver

Got permission to hunt my wife's friend's tiny yard and came away with these.

2nd hunt at silver spill house

After yesterday's hunt there was no way I wasn't going back for another look around. Only found 5 coins, none silver. Funny thing was the copper penny and the clad quarter were both from 1980 and the nickel and 2 wheaties were all 1940. Couldn't match the silver spill, so how about a token...

Best hunt ever, 7 silver coin spill plus some other goodies.

The story goes like this:yesterday was my mother-in-law's birthday and we went to a nearby restaurant to celebrate. Since their parking lot is small there is a lot next door with an uninhabited house built in 1860 on it that's used for overflow parking. I asked the restaurant owner if he owned...

    Hello kitty...and 1st silver of 2016

Happy new year everyone. The ground thawed enough to go digging at a pounded park for an hour resulting in a 1936 Merc, a 1956 wheatie and this beautiful ring! I'm definitely looking forward to 2016 since I retired at the end of January which means more detecting (and of course, more golf)! As I...

Thread Showcasing Member's Two Best Finds of 2015

These were my favorites:my first gold ring and a nice Barber dime because I found it in my son's backyard.

The slickest silver coin I ever dug.

I returned to the house built in 1928 that I found the silver dimes and wheats last week and dug the most wiped silver dime I ever saw. You can barely make out the outline of the seated Lady Liberty on the front and man, is this dime thin ! No date on the front and the back isn't much better...

Silvers #24 and 25 and a few wheats

The house across the street from my favorite restaurant/watering hole was just sold to be knocked down so another business can spring up in it's place. It's the last house in the area and it's days are numbered. Saved a few coins from being plowed under. The Merc is 192?, too worn to read. I'll...

Silver dime and a cool button from the suddenly productive park

I stopped by my hometown park and scored a 1946 rosie and this button that I found was made in the early 1900's up the hill from the park in Waterbury, Ct. When I got to the park there were some guys playing football on my intended hunt area so I moved over about 50 yards and my first signal was...

Starting to figure out how to locate the deep stuff

It took a few years but I'm slowly starting to learn to use my machine to locate and dig deeper silver coins in areas I've hunted before. This 1935 Merc was down around 9" deep about 30 yards away from where I found the 1875 seated dime last week. I have a White's V3i and shallow dimes ring up...

My oldest silver coin comes out of my midget football field

Finally got back to detecting after a month off due to a sore back and a death in the family. So I thought I'd pick a nice easy flat area which turned out to be the park I went to a lot when I was a youngster. Imagine my surprise when this showed up on the 35-yard line. And no lie I must have...

Old wheatie and Indian head spill.

I returned to the future bank site and found 5 wheats (1910,1916,1916,1918 and 1919) and a 1907 Indian head in the same hole not 5 feet from the back door. I don't know how I missed it the other time I was there. Sorry, no pics, got them soaking because a few had nice detail, want to see if any...

Before the new bank is built, I make a withdrawal.

An area bank bought a few adjacent lots on the main drag to build a new branch office. There are a few old houses on theses lots so I went in before the bulldozers and got these. The wheats were 1911,1920(2),1926 and 1952. Still have some area left to detect. The 2 silvers got me up to 20 for...

    Labor Day Hunt

Went out for a short Labor Day hunt and found a 46 Rosie, 6 wheats (oldest was 1944) and a couple Hot Wheel cars. Way too hot for this time of the year!
