CT Group Hunt, weekend digs, yesterday's surprise find

Been a fun week. Last Wednesday I met up with Isaac and Sam and brought them to a few of my spots in Rhode Island. Sadly the spots never panned out and we ended up getting more ticks on each of us then we did finds in our pockets. Thursday I met up with Isaac and Robert in CT and we hit a bunch...

Charles II Hibernia, Half reale, fatty Indian, and relics

Well what a weekend it was! Lots of firsts despite having to change my plans several times. Saturday was a solo hunt to a cellar hole I had never been to before. I had been in the area with Jarrod before and hit some others (with limited finds) but didn't go to this one cause it's behind people...

Copper, flying eagle, Indians, and relics

What a fantastic weak it's been weather wise! On Wednesday afternoon I did a little detecting in the northern part of the state, beautiful 73°, didn't find much but found a cool pre civil war barometer part, and a really nice fragment to a silver applied shoe buckle frame. Saturday I was on the...

KGII, another quarter cut copper, more relics

Friday afternoon after class I headed up to CT in search of another colonial cellar hole in the same area as the one I hit the previous Sunday. This time I dragged Sam along with me. It was snowing at URI but not snowing where I was in CT. Sam and I met up and we hiked into the woods in search...

Could be a bad year for bugs

I swear I saw a horsefly yesterday alongside other bugs while hiking in the woods and it was only 43°. I haven't been bothered yet and don't expect to for a while (other than ticks) but this could be a bad sign of a bad bug year. They won't stop me from detecting though (only stepping on...

Massachusetts Copper, ornate knee buckle, and more!

What a great weekend of detecting. I was on the road early on Saturday morning and headed up to the Northern Part of the State to hit a few colonial cellar holes. A little chilly walking in but it warmed up quickly. As soon as I got to the cellar hole I knew it was an oldie, the foundation was...

    Are sword hangers real?

I'm wondering if there was ever such a thing as a sword hanger. Seems every time someone finds one it always turns out to be a gag loop. Are sword hangers just a myth or did they actually exist?

    Copper # 7 & 1/4 and a surprise Group hunt

The temperatures have warmed up and the snow has melted away. I got out of class at 11 on Wednesday and headed over to a few local spots to do some detecting. First spot was a total dud. The cellar hole was filled with modern garbage and the rest of the area was covered with nasty briars. I...

    Fellow detectorists of Rhode Island

I've been detecting at cellar holes since around the end of 2013 and I still have yet to ever see another detectorist (who I wasn't hunting with) in the woods at the same time or even see one putting his gear away on the side of the road. Of course the signs are always there, holes not filled...

3 coppers, 3 fatties, and great weather!

The last snowstorm had me wondering how long it would be until I got out detecting again but it ended up being less than a week. I headed out Friday afternoon after I got out of my 10am class and headed up to do some cellar hunting in central RI. There was still some snow on the ground when I...

Seated quarter spill, coppers, and colonial relics

Tuesday morning I headed out for a quick hunt at a colonial cellar hole I had never been to before. I didn't have that long to detect because I had other things to do so I was hoping for a few nice finds in the limited time that I had. Site has obviously been hit before but probably not in...

Thursday's relics and Saturday's Slim pickings.

Thursday I thought would be the perfect day to rehit some sites I detected at during the summer. This particular site actually had 3 cellar holes all within short walking distance of each other and was where I found my war of 1812 button. Anyway's after hiking almost 2 miles I made it to the...

    Need some help with these.

I found all of these at the same colonial site as the one I mentioned in my last post in this section. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how old the first two pieces are. I'm assuming they are furniture related. Next photo is of a pewter object that is holed. Is it some kind of colonial...

    Lead what's-it????

I haven't the faintest idea what this is. It was found at one of my colonial sites close to the cellar hole (mid 1700's-early 1800's) and was around 4-5 inches deep. I have found some Victorian-turn of the century stuff across from the cellar hole cause it was used as some kind of dump. Any ideas???

    REALE-ly great start to 2016!!

Saturday January 2nd I headed up to Northern RI to hit some cellar holes with Jarrod. There wasn't any snow on the ground for most of the ride up but by the time we got to the town we were detecting in, the ground was mostly fully snow covered. Good news was it was only a coating of snow and the...

    Last hunts of 2015

2015 was a good year. I'll post a yearly recap in the coming weeks (I'm lazy with that stuff lol). Anyways I got out a few more times and found a few more relics. Childs shoe buckle chape, a silver Rosie (first silver since August), some 1820's spoons and a weird Japanese 10 Sen token or some...

Coppers, Colonial relics, and lots of fun with friends!

I haven't posted for a few weeks on here and I apologize about that. This post is pretty picture heavy so let that serve as a warning. Anyways I got out with several people over the past few weeks including both Sam and Isaac (on this forum) and Jarrod. Sam found a virgin colonial cellar hole...

Rosa Americana Copper, interesting brass relic, and more!

The past week has been a busy one for me. Lots of assignments due and this week isn't gonna be any better as I have my first final exam on Thursday which means the remaining days are devoted to studying for the upcoming exams. I've still managed to get out a few times though and I am glad I did...

Copper 22 fty plus good news and bad news

Thanksgiving weekend I got out with Sam (from this forum) to hit a few cellar holes in northern RI. They were hit really hard but I was able to squeak out a button at one and then we moved onto a small depression that looked to be a starter home or something. No targets around the cellar hole...
