Good start to August. New Cellar hole gives up some good finds.

July was a tough month for me. The finds were scarce and productive cellars holes are getting very tough to come by. The calendar finally changed to August and I was hoping it would bring some better luck for me. So far, it has. I headed up to Northern RI on Friday to explore a very remote site...

Past few hunts: Copper #12 and more relics!

I haven't found any notable new hunting spots lately so I've been rehitting a lot of my old locations to detect areas I hadn't covered well or explore other possible sites in those same patches of woods. Back on July 3rd, I headed to CT to meet up with OxShoe, Del, and Trooper Bri. Unfortunately...

Why are relics so under appreciated?

I feel people like silver more than relics even though relics tell a much better story at times. I was just looking for peoples opinions.

Copper and indian spill plus a few relics.

I haven't been having much luck at the cellar holes lately. Last few cellars I've hit do not appear on any historical maps , are deep in the woods, hard to access, and are only small rock lined holes. Unfortunately all of them had been pounded incredibly hard and I usually found myself coming...

Group hunt with Pacivilwarluke: Silver thimble, old coins, and relics!!!

I haven't had much luck detecting lately, found a few cellar holes not on the maps but people had already beat me to them. Still pulled out some buttons, shoe buckle fragments, and the usual stuff. Finally my luck changed on Tuesday when I headed over to the Cape cod area where Pacivilwarluke...

It's been quiet here the past weeks

Seems a lot of members here is either extremly busy and haven't had time to post on here or they haven't had much luck Lately (like myself). Anyway, hope everyone is doing well either way. Happy hunting!!!

Coppers 8-10, silver #13, lots of new sites and lots of relics.

I have been doing a lot of detecting lately. I found an area of woods with a bunch of cellars, none of them are on any maps. I went out today on a scouting mission and located two more new sites but my batteries gave out on me at the last site. It was a pretty miserable day pouring on and off...

How often does this happen to you?

You are driving down the road maybe heading to work, school, or maybe to your favorite new cellar hole and notice a gentleman with headphones swinging away on the side of the road. You wonder if you recognize them so you look again and then realize the guy isn't metal detecting, he's only weed...

    Get Permission!

For over half a year people have been telling me to "Get Permission". Only a few months ago I was afraid to knock on somebodies door because I felt uncomfortable and was afraid they would say No. Since the start of the year I have knocked on several doors, getting two yes's (1 person was the old...

Awesome time at D.I.N.E. and a short cellar hunt.

I had an amazing time at D.I.N.E. (Digging in New England), I am so glad I went. It was really great to finally meet and talk with some of the guys on this forum (Thiltzy, HeavyMetalNut, Oxshoe, PacivilwarLuke...). I also saw some familiar faces from YouTube and other places like Howard...

Mediocre 10 days but still managed some decent finds

I've been doing a lot of detecting lately but not making a lot of quality finds. What am I going to say though? Its not every day you go out and dig a bunch of once in a lifetime finds. You just gotta keep pushing and eventually the tables will turn back in your favor. On Thursday April 23 I...

Mean people and getting kicked out of a permission.

Today I didn't have school so I went to one of my favorite towns in northern RI to try to get some permissions. Well let's just say it was a total disaster. First two people weren't home, third person was home but never answers the door and instead let their vicious German Shepard take a snap at...

Stone walls and newer cellar holes

Every once in a while I hit the "newer" cellar holes or the ones that only appear on post civil war maps. Most of the time, they are surrounded by stone walls as is usually the case in New England. As expected, these cellars produce Victorian Relics, 2 piece buttons... Etc. However, every once...

Colonial buckle dump and...not much else

Tuesday morning I left the house at sunrise to hit some cellars in CT that Isaac and I found while researching. They were deep in the woods and looked like they could have (some) potential. They were pounded but did save a colonial dandy button with shank intact and a gigantic ox knob under a...

My 5th copper of the year, a little silver, and lots of relics

The last 7 days were incredible with temperatures reaching the 60's and 70's almost every day. The week started out on Sunday when I hit up some cellar holes with Sam C. The finds were far and few between and it was pretty disappointing. Sorry Sam! I headed out on Monday to some private property...

What is an item everyone else seems to find often but you rarely find?

For me it's Indians. I dig the signals and they always turn out to be wheats, zincs or worn copper memorials. Last year I got more large coppers than Indians :hystericallaugh:. So far this year it's 4 coppers- 3 Indians and the 3 indians were found in the same hole. I'm not complaining though...

    Cellar hunting-Is it worth it?

I've been detecting cellars for about a year and a half and have found basically all of my older coins here. Only recently have I began to get permissions to hunt older homes. Anyway, it seems that just in a year the amount of sites that have been depleted of their resources is astounding. Is it...

    Tips for detecting old roads/trails.

New England has an abundance of long abandoned trails and roads that go through the woods. I've never had much luck on the trails and roads usually finding modern trash, shot gun shells etc. On one old road however I found a worn matron, 3 indian heads, a v nickel, some wheats, and other oldies...

Awesome week of detecting!! First ever half cent and more!!!

I guess my story will begin last Saturday. On Saturday I headed up to Northern RI to see if I could hit some cellars that had been snow covered since January. If I couldn't I would get...GASP... Permission. Well there was still a little too much snow there so after driving past a bunch of...
