    2014 Finds

Hello All and Happy New Year! I did not post nearly as much this year as I have in past years. I did not hunt as much this year as in the past either due to a very busy work schedule, but did make it out enough to make some nice finds. As always it was nice to get out this year on occasion with...

Street Project finds from this week

Hello All, Been out quite a bit this summer, but just have not had the time to make many posts. I continue to hit the sidewalk and street tearouts, and this week was a pretty good one. These are the good finds from about 5 hours worth of hunting this week.

6/9/14 First Franklin Half on Street Project

I hunted a two block section of street and sidewalk tearout on Milwaukee's southside in a 1930's neighborhood on Monday 6/9 and found a bunch of wheats and my first Franklin half. Strangest thing, I found a crushed alum can two feet away then bam, another big signal, thought it was another can...

Trying to Help a Friend ID a Copper

A friend of mine found this copper at a site over the weekend. This site has produced coins from the 1830's and 1840's and relics in to the late 18th Century. They believe this site to be a possible late Fur Trade era site. The coin measures 21mm in diameter. Please let me know if you see...

    Help Dating Buttons?

These buttons are from a site my uncle and I are pursuing to MDetect. These buttons were dug out of the ground at two excavation sites on this property. Please help me with a date if you can from what is pictured. This site had possible military activity as early as the 1820's. Thanks!

    4/27 Streetwork Hunt: Two IH's, Buffalo & F.D. Fireman's button

Went out for a bit again yesterday afternoon and found these items, plus a couple modern marbles. It's supposed to rain all week so don't think there will be much action this week here. HH!

    And Yet More Streetwork Finds

Here are my finds from the last two hunts at the street/sidewalk project. I really like the lock, boy it sure rang up nice, thought I had a silver quarter for sure. The barber dime is 1912S, and I found another 1932 Walgreens Milwaukee prosperity token. I don't know the whole story behind...

    2014 First Outing - Coins & Bottles

I was out of town all of last week and when I returned and was driving through town I ran across a street project that I did not think was supposed to start until summer. This was motivation to throw my gear in the car. So out I went Saturday morning for a few hours. I found three wheat...

Roger Tomlinson, I salute you! In Memorium

Heard this on NPR today and for all of the GIS mapping sites I use to find MDing locations, thank you! A great story! http://www.npr.org/2014/02/13/276522411/tech-innovator-and-master-of-maps-dies-at-80

Made a new drum for my tumbler

Well, after more than three years the drum on my Harbor Freight, Chicago tumbler has just about worn through the rubber. So, today was a cold day with the ground mostly frozen, I decided to pay a visit to Home Depot to see what I could come up with. Here is the result, a 4 1/4" long piece of pvc...

A cold day MDing is better than a warm day in the office!

My friend (gameoftag, fmdf) and I scheduled a day long outing to some field home sites. He had some that he had found and secured permission on recently, so we planned a day a couple of weeks ago. Little did we know on Monday it was going to be 30 degrees, cloudy and 35mph winds all day long...

    Late Fall Street/Sidewalk Project Finds

The latest project that I have had my eye on has been a bit of a dissappointment. The sidewalk beds are filled and lined with a load of coal clinkers, fill and just nasty iron infested dirt.....quite frankly the worst I have ever seen! Nonetheless I have made it out and found a few old coins. So...

    Quarter?

Last hunt to the ballfield project before they finish grade and seed. Found this in a pile of dirt dug up from digging a fence post for the new ballfield. Definitely looks to be the size of a quarter, but man is it worn thin! I am hoping to get just a small detail once the sulfide comes off.

Can anyone shed any light on this pin? It is about 2 inches by 1 inch high. Found by my uncle today at an old school.
