Final finds of 2015: buttons, relics, DB Half cent

Here are some finds from my last few hunts of 2015. The SLQ is the one I found prior which I (over) cleaned to get the tarnish off. Tough to tell from the pic but found a DB Half Cent....crusty and no date. The Mickey Mouse spoon is circa 1930's. Any help on that small button sized...

Okay got my tumbler. Now what?

I must have been a good boy because Santa brought me the 3 lb rock tumbler form Harbor Freight I had asked for...and he delivered it early! Now what? Besides the obvious clad, what should I try tumbling? Wondering about: -Smoothie LC's and coppers? -Colonial and other early buckles? -Flat or...

    Finally....my first SLQ !!!!

An SLQ was at the top of my bucket list, and it finally happened yesterday! It's a 1923 and it's actually in decent shape but I'm going to keep working on getting that tarnish off (it's not a key date). I guess a flying eagle cent or maybe a capped bust anything is now at the top of my...

    1719 King George Coppah !!!!!!!!!

It's been a good week for me on the old coppers. Earlier in the week I found my first 1600's coin....a 1693 William & Mary halfpenny. Then a couple of days ago (in a different spot) I found this 1719 King George I halfpenny....my first of this type. Thanks for looking and HH!

    Tumbler reccomendation?

I'm going to ask Santa for a tumbler. Any suggestions on a good one to get? Or crappy ones to avoid? I would see myself using it for coins on occasion and small to medium sized relics....probably not large ones. I don't want something to huge. Also, best material to put inside? Thanks all.

    I'm into the 1600's !!!!!!

Here is a sampling of my recent finds, highlighted by my first 1600's coin.....a 1693 William & Mary halfpenny. So, I get my first 17th century coin before I get my first SLQ? The detecting gods work in mysterious ways. No matter...I'm happy! If you want to see my finds on my YouTube...

    Double Big Silver Morning!

I think I better go buy a lottery ticket or something. Last weekend I found my first Trime and my second war nickle. Yesterday I hit a different field and got my first eagle button (turns out to be WWI general service), an IH and an 1851 Braided Hair LC (not 1831...correcting my prior post)...

Largie, IH, button ID help please

Hit a field today and pulled an 1831 matron head and an 1890 IH. I took some naval jelly to that fancy silver gilded button and was amazed at how the details came out. If that is in fact part of a two piece eagle button then it is my first! Can anyone confirm, or help ID and date? The cool...

I'm going to clean my trime. Any suggestions?

I've thought this through. It's not a valuable coin and I think I can get the rest of that black gunk off. I can't tell if it's tarnish or maybe tar or something. Some of the black came off after the initial warm water/soap/soft tooth brush process at the sink, and that's all I've done to it...

    Trime !!!!!!!

Here are some pics of my recent finds over the last few weeks, highlighted by my first silver 3 cent piece that I found today! Found it in a NH field on a group hunt. It's an 1853. I cannot believe how small they are...I thought it was a cuff button and looked more closely and my jaw...

Coin drought ends with Big Silver

Some ok relics recently, but I've been on a serious coin drought for weeks. I finally broke through this weekend with my second Walker. I scratched it....oh well. It came out of a dry sandy field but was almost jet black with tarnish so I decided to take some baking soda too it to pretty...

1798 Draped Bust, and other recent finds

Found my best large copper ever....a 1798 Draped Bust Large Cent (type 2). I was very lucky that it was in such great condition. The V nickle is the first I have been able to pull a date from. The 1898 Barber dime is the first "O" mint mark I have on any coin to date. Thanks, and HH!

Complete shoe buckles, watch and fob

Some recent finds for your viewing pleasure. Found two complete Colonial shoe buckles on the same hunt...one of them still hinges like the day it was made! Found the typical copper New England mystery disc...the coin is too far gone to ID (it's thin...probably a KG). The silver plated...

1800's British silver, IH, some relics

Finally something to post. Until this weekend I had been out 4 or 5 times and had only managed one lone wheatie to show for it! Ugh. Well I finally got my first silver coin yesterday, and it wasn't anything I would have expected. It was covered in dirt and so I didn't rub it, but a bit of...

Some Colonial and other misc. finds

Nothing earth shattering here, but I was just happy to be getting my shovel in the ground in late December! The shoe buckle is one of the best I have found. No ID on the copper unfortunately. You can't read it in the photo but the inscription on that rectangular brass plate reads...

Any Bounty Hunter experts out there?

I've been keeping my eye out for a new but inexpensive machine for my nephew. I noticed this site is selling the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 for $120. Does anyone know anything about it? Apparently that model is being discontinued, which is why the price for that unit is less than the lower...

Detector store going out of business

I stumbled across this post on Craig's List from a store in Maryland that is going out of business. Just passing it along...maybe there is a deal to be had. http://newlondon.craigslist.org/eld/4783452647.html

    Taft campaign button, Mercs

Got out for a couple of hours this morning and made a few finds, the most interesting of which was a William Howard Taft 1908 campaign button. It's very light...made of tin. Taft was groomed to be Teddy Roosevelt's successor for the Republican party in 1908 and I guess since Roosevelt had a...

    My first Spanish Silver!

I got my first Spanish silver today! It's a 1751....beats my oldest silver coin (a Seated dime) by 126 years! Man was I pumped when I dug this. Found it in the woods off an old road. The signal was so strong and shallow I really thought it was going to be a Merc or a Rosie. It was in...
