Is there any safe way to clean brass buttons?

General Staff officers button, 24 stars, 4 arrows, 5 vertical lines, 22mm, 7 stars in chief . This is all I can gather since the back is too rusty but has full shank. I went to relicman.com and found one similiar but it had 5 stars in shield. :confused:

Anytime I get change, I always take a look at it. Heard a story of a guy getting a flying eagel cent in change at a store. They thought it was canadien or something. Anyways, I've notice several 1986 pennies that have a slight broadstrike.
