1700's trade silver and other relics at my cottage!

British items are not found very often where my cottage is located. I have only found 1 button. It was one of the first old buttons I found that dates back to the War 1812 era. I found it about 8-10 years ago in front of one of the cottages in my area. It is a staff officer's 41st...

1700's trade silver and other relics at my cottage!

I guess I will start this post by admitting that I am spoiled with the location of my cottage and the history that occurred all around it and even in my front yard. Last week I took 5 days off of work and my oldest son and I went up to the cottage to open it up and enjoy some fishing and...

Found an old seated last night!

Last night I went out to a fairground that dates back to the mid 1880's for a short hunt. I was not expecting much as most of the place has be regraded and gravel/asphalt shavings are everywhere it seems. I have found a fair amount of barbers the last couple years in the few areas that are...

    I got one too!

I hit a fairgrounds near me that is dated from the mid 1880's the other night. This place the last couple years has been good to me but I know it could be much much better. Unfortunately 80% of it has been regraded and then topped with asphalt grindings for parking. But I came across a fairly...

    A little bit of everything.

I have been spending the last few weeks or so hitting beaches in the hopes of finding gold. It has not happened but I have dug alot of junk jewelry and some silver... I did hit an old park on Labor Day and found the pipe bowl. I hit it with the shovel and busted it in half but it glued up...

Indian trade rings and tinkling cones and more 1812 era buttons

I spent last week up at my cottage somewhere in northern Michigan and detected quite a bit. I did not go to any of the military sites that I have done so well at in the past but instead explored some new areas and had some success. I ended up with 3 trade rings and 3 tinkling cones and 6 more...

Gold and lots of silver coins!

I was up at my cottage where I usually do a lot of relic detecting but while up there the water was so calm all of last week that I took the jetski to a beach site about 5 miles away. I knew it had some potential for jewelry so I thought I would give it a try. The first morning I got there and...

    Big silvers and barbers!

I rarely find big silver but I had a great experience a couple weeks ago. I have an older neighbor who lives in a home that is on an 1876 map. My boys did a little detecting of his yard a couple years ago but left after 30 minutes because they felt uncomfortable (they were only 11 and 13 at...

    I found another gold ring...

June has been a strange month here in Michigan. It was bone dry for the first 3 weeks and now it won't stop raining! I did manage some very nice finds including a 10k gold class ring from 1949. About 3 weeks ago I decided to head over to the town where our newest member AJ lives and hopefully...

A small Gold ring and a lot of indians and silver

I have had great success the last 3 weeks or so detecting. I rediscovered an old park I had given up on as all fill but I decided to try again and go really slow and been rewarded with a bunch of 1800's coins. 4 of the Indians and that Canadian LC from 1888 came at this park. The oldest coin...

    Big silver and more

Here are a few of my recent finds. I found the Walker at an old baseball field but in the infield by the pitchers mound. I usually stay away from the infield but I found a wheatie on the edge of it and ventured farther in and was rewarded. The Indians and barber dime came up by my cottage...

More War of 1812 era buttons and Indian trade rings

Last week I headed up to my family's cottage to open it up for the season and of course I brought the detector in the hopes I would find more War of 1812 era relics. The first site that I detected, my family has found about 80 buttons there and the first day I found 10 more. The best one is a...

Another Sweet Shield and more finds...

Got out a few times during my lunch breaks the past week or so and found a few items here and there. I had a great hunt this past weekend where I found a really nice Shield Nik again. This one is an 1876. I came across a shallow 22 signal that I wanted out of the way hoping that it was...

A Sweet Shield and some other goodies

I have not been out detecting quite as much as I usually do but I have had some decent success. Best find is an 1869 Shield nik. I never took a pic of the front of the Shield Nik but it is not quite as nice as the back. The 1916 merc is just a plain if you were wondering.

    Cool spil to start 2021

The last few weeks have been warm enough to allow me to do some detecting here in Michigan. The spill came last week when I visited an old fairgrounds and came across a nickel signal that also jumped high on the VDI scale. About 8 inches down I found a couple V nickels and then I found another...

Let's see your best silver coin!

Some amazing coins above! Donnie's coin is ridiculous of course but those Spanish silvers are awesome. This is what I consider my best coin. My 1812 half dollar. The front has some interesting iron staining but other than that it is great shape for being found in a farm field.

3 months of finds...some great stuff!

Below are some pics of the last 3 plus months of finds. All were found at local parks with the exception of a couple sterling pcs of jewelry that I found at a beach. My favorite find was this Love Token I already posted... I found a 1 Troy Ounce of .999 fine silver too. It was just...

    GOLD Ring! Ohio hunt...

Last weekend I went down to my home town in Ohio to do some deer hunting and some detecting of course. There is a "Field of Dreams" that I have been detecting for 8 years now and have never found any gold despite digging anything and everything the last couple years. Well it happened! I dug a...

So my Mom is an Axe Murderer...

Well potentially she is. Check out what she has found the last 3 weeks up at our cottage! The first one she found was the "Trade Axe". I am not sure if it really is a trade axe but I guess it could be. It was rusted up and I told her to set up electrolysis on it. So she did and it...

    Seated Love Token!!

Sunday evening I went to an old park that dates back to the 1850's or so. I have never found a seated there but I have had a fair amount of success over the years and I know that there has to be lots of old deep coins there. I also wanted to try out the new Equinox update that is supposed to...
