Not many keepers, but a cool coin bracelet

I got out yesterday to a couple sites I wanted to check out, unfortunately nothing really produced. There is one stream site that was supposed to be an old swimming hole, but only had lots of big iron from the nearby railroad. I'll have to get back and explore further out when I have more time...

Morning hunt. Goodies and a ring.

No flaking here, just a beautiful shiny gold color. Heres a couple more photos with better lightning. If it is silver, what could make it look so much like gold? Edit: Confirmed silver. Used a dab of Tarnex and worked It hard in a small spot. It did turn color to silver. Must be a coating...

Morning hunt. Goodies and a ring.

Hi all, Got out to the beach for about 3 and a half hours this morning after work. Lots of the typical clad, and a fake gold pendant. I also found a ring I'm not certain of. Detecting along the edge of the water i got a deep sketchy 12-38ish signal. About a foot down i pulled a very...

Beach hunt, .950 silver & more fake gold.

Hi all, Tried an afternoon hunt to beat out the early bird morning hunters. Still not much, but probably because of fewer beach goers with colder weather with rain showers. Still, I managed some beer money and a couple rings. One is my first .950 silver, the other was another beautiful 12-30...

Short morning hunt turns up lots of (fake) gold

Hi all, Got out this morning for about a 90 minute beach hunt after work. First thing i noticed was some extra erosion in places, and others built up by the wash. So I worked first around some rocks put in to slow the beach erosion that seems to catch a lot of debris. Within the first minute i...

Its been a sterling year so far!

Just thought I would post a quick roundup of the silver jewelry I've found so far this year. I don't know why, but I've been having a tough time finding the old coins, but the sterling keeps popping up! Well, I think that's all of them. Thanks for looking. GL&HH!

    Interesting tag

Hi all, While detecting an 1850s site I only found one interesting item, a pole tag from a now defunct electric rail line. I had always wondered about the many miles of abandoned rail beds across SE Wisconsin, now researching this tag it opened up that era of history. The tag is reads...

    Couple hours at the beach

Update and photos: the ring I found IS Sterling! Once I got to work wherein have my test kit and my ultrasonic cleaner, I was able to see the .925 stamp, and verified it with the acid test. I can only guess it rang up lower because of the lattice design.

    Couple hours at the beach

Hi all, I got out this morning for a couple hours after work for a beach hunt. Still early in the season, but starting to find a lot more clad, plus found a huge chain and one ring. Pretty sure the ring is aluminum though since it only rang up at a 12-41. Odd thing is a small hallmark inside...

    Hook looking thingy.. ideas?

Hi all, found this little hook looking thing during a field hunt. Don't know if it's anything important. Appreciate any insight. Thanks! Edit: after some looking online, it looks like it could be a CW era knapsack hook, which fits the age of the field.

Last 2 hunts net old aluminum

Hi all, I got out for a couple hunts. The first being an old field next to what was once an 1800s farm and the other a water hunt at a park swimming hole. The farm itself is now built over be a very large factory which is expanding again into the field, which made this a priority hunt. After...

Got some shiny, and finally in the 1800s too!

Hi all, I got back out to a permission for a couple hours yesterday and did pretty well especially for a place hunted so hard for so long. A couple coins were so obvious i couldnt believe ther were missed! The first being only my 4th Barber dime, and the best condition one to date. Found it...

    Couple more for the collection!

Hi-De-Ho fellow detectorists! I was able to get out to the old zoo for about an hour on the way to work. Lots of clad, but working a really trashy area paid off. Scored a nice merc and another sterling ring. I'll have to spend a lot of time in this area and work it really slow. Even the...

Thursday hunt, finally over the hump.

Hi all, I was able to get put for the day with FF43 at one of his old hard hit sites. Beautiful area but tough hunting with tons of trash and iron everywhere. I didn't get as much swinging time ad I hoped because my gf decided that she needed me to teach her how to use my CTX at the last...

Field hunt, a few interesting finds.

Follow up: it appears the crucifix is likely the oldest find and quite rare being made of lead. Reading the histories and documentation on identifying them, use of lead for crucifixes ended in the mid 1800s. Also having the second figure below is apparently very unusual.

Field hunt, a few interesting finds.

Field hunt, a few interesting finds.

Hi all, Got out for about 2 hours in the field before work today. Rough going because of z lot of corn stalks still standing and lots of road trash, mainly cans. The only really notable finds were a part of a lead cross which was folded and broke while cleaning the mud off and trying to...

Eye of the storm allows some silver.

Hi all, Yesterday I guess I timed it perfect. I had the morning off from work a d was planning to head out. But the past several days has been just one storm after another. Today we had what looked like a big Midwest hurricane go through which gave me about 5 hours of almost cloudless sunshine...
