Hello All!

Saturday was great weather to get out and detecting... As well, the ground had some moisture in it from Earl that ran though on Friday... So I headed to the spot I was at on Thurday in Mass...

Video for this hunt:

Dirt Fishing (Metal Detecting) in Connecticut / Mass - Sept. 4, 2010

I had a a 1911 Wheat to start the hunt off and my 2nd good target I recover was amazing... I was battling crazy EMI as you will see in the video, but this target was sounding great and was not what I expected at all...

I was getting souns in the 6-7 range that were sounding off @ 12/47... As I dug in... they were hitting 12/47, but seemed to settle more in at 12/45... Pinpoint and popped out a large copper...

I could see this one was counterstamped... and if you look at the reverse side... you can see that semi-circle... It was not immediately obvious to this noob, that there was another target in the ground... I was using the probe to check depth as you will see in the video and head the 2nd target :-)

Neither are in great shape overall... but hey TWO COPPERS IN ONE HOLE! and... I had only been there about 10 minutes... One is an 1851, and you can see the 1:loveit:X on the other...

Next target was a fait whisper that there might be a recoverable target... and with the EMI I was gambling... Well... Turned out to be my 3rd copper early into the hunt...

Next up was a decent signal without 4 other undesirable targets around it... bouncing between 12/43 and 12/47...

Hello 1917 Mercury Dime... (Silver Coin # 80 for 2010)

Awsome finds!!! What was the purpose of the counterstamp? Was it marked by stores or something?

Counterstamped coins: Regular issue United States and foreign coins were often counterstamped with advertisements, hallmarks, names, and other identification, to make the pieces useful as advertisements, to promote a political cause, or for some other reason.

Really great finds, thanks for the info on counterstamps :) Congratulations on all the beautiful silver!

What a day :shocked04: You really tore that place up lol You can even see the dark green patch is where the two large cents overlapped each other. 3 coppers, lots of silver, and one heck of a hunt!! You get a couple of these :beerbuddy: :beerbuddy: and even one of these <:
