Brass Eagle Hat Plate

Got out for about an hour and 1/2. Went back to the 1700's house. This item was down abut 8 and I am really hoping that it is military. Looks to be made out of brass. It's a little over 5 1/2 long. To bad the head is missing, anybody got a spare eagle head? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

the pictures are of the front and the back. The left wing is bent behind the wing and I don't want to try to bend it out. I have put a dime in the picture for size reference.

1836 hat or cap plate

Struck in copper, and silvered, this eagle, which is very similar in design to that prescribed for the Regular Establishment in both 1821 and 1832, was made for Militia infantry from about 1836 to perhaps as late as 1851. Specimens struck in brass are also known, and the same eagle is found on half-sunburst backgrounds. It is quite possible that this is the eagle illustrated in the Huddy and Duval prints as being worn by both the Washington Blues of Philadelphia and the U.S. Marine Corps.[115]

Del, I was hoping that you would know something on this item. Thanks for this information. I thought that it might be something good when it came out of the ground. It's a shame that its not complete. Any suggestions on straighteningout the wing??

hey Al its possible to find the other part and i truely hope you do , the metal can be very brittle now adter a 100+ years in the ground . after looking at yours i would never attemp it myself its bent over to much but there a few guys that do amazing restorations and if you interested i could shoot you a couple of names.

do you think that the person restoring the item can make it look like it was suspose to? Replaced head?
