I own an etrac and am quite happy with the coin results. I would also like to pick up a good jewelry detector. I am leaning towards an ATPro but would like some confirmation or other opinions. Thx Wisconsin Digger

I just purchased an e-trac last week, but I will not get rid of my ATP. It's a great machine for hunting jewelry on beaches and in the water.
I think it would be a good choice for you.

generally detectors with higher frequencies are hotter on gold and platinum jewelry .

I have found that my VX3 has been a good machine for jewelry. The 3 frequency display helps a lot with target ID since different materials hit on different freqs. I suppose that your price range will have a big impact on your choice. Good luck in your decision.

Thx guys. Still not sure. I learned with the etrac that spending the money is worth it so money won't be the deciding factor. I'll look into the White models as well as I have not looked into them since the 70's.

FWIW, according to George Payne, the father of today's metal detector technology, nickels and gold jewelry respond best to frequencies around 16.5 kHz.

Just curious Wisconsin Digger, why are you unhappy with the E trac when it comes to jewelry? I have just purchased an E trac and would expect that it would find jewelry. Has jewelry been a problem in your experience? As I mentioned earlier, I like my vx3 for finding jewelry but I still dig a large amount of trash as I expect that most people that hunt jewelry do.

Cheers

Ron
