Old Horse Shoe

I found this old horse shoe in the woods of Alexandria, VA, in the Mount Vernon area. Lot of Colonial and Civil War history to the area.

The front is worn thin, and thick on the ends. Lots of rust.

Any idea of age?

Thanks
Andrew

those can sound pretty darn good at times , curious to hear what Longhair says about it .

Horse shoes are incredibly hard to accurately date. Mostly because they are not mass produced and the same design can carry on forever  The best way to date them vaguely is to see what all the finds in that area date to.

I like horse shoes too, I have quite a few and they all seem to be different. I have a big electrolysis job ahead of me one day to clean them up!

They fool you with good sounds, was worn down a lot. They must have had to wait until they had one the change it with to let it go that long! Just an idea.
