Even though you had the "No Silver Drive Home of Shame" that is a GREAT find Don! Did it ring up like a clad quarter, except deeper? HH, Dave.

Exactly, 12-46 at about 7 inches. I was hoping for silver, but I'll take a largie over a silver any day.

Congrats on that nice Largie! Funny, both of the largies I found rang up around 12-38. One at about a foot down, and the other at only about 1 to 2 inches. Go figure...:shocked01:

No. I think I'm going to leave it alone. I'm always afraid of ruining them. I just put water on them for the second two photos. Although I am open for cleaning suggestions.

I think there is more detail under that green stuff (especially the reverse), but let someone with more knowledge than me chime in. It's a beauty as it is!

Great find Don, and a "slanted 5" variety as well. I'm no expert on cleaning largies but have found several over the past few years and have come to realize that too much water and peroxide can really screw up these old coins. Have you tried using a wooden toothpick to remove some of the remaining crud? I like using the longer ones, like shish-ke-bob skewer size so as to get more leverage. I find these can be quite helpful. Keep finding the goodies. HH!

I have to agree again about too much water and peroxide.....now I just use a toothbrush and some REN wax. Congrats on the LC, by the looks of your signature much harder to find than silvers.

Yeah John and Al. Sometimes I have been using mineral oil or EVoo sometimes vs using the peroxide. Sometimes I use the peroxide but I try to take it out periodically to make sure I don't kill it. Sometimes the coins don't have crud stuck to it, its just beyond patina. That really oxidized layer might be coming off regardless of what you do.
