Awesome find, I've been looking for him on Ancestry, found him in the Marine enlistment paperwork.
Well, I was contacted by someone and has informed me that the coin I found isn't a KGIII, its a King William III, more than likely a half penny, (1689 - 1702) which would make this my oldest coin...
Had a chance to get out Thursday for a few hours and staying about 20 feet or so around the well.

Enjoyed the couple hours out in the nice sunshine and started metal detecting a new colonial property. Though I have an agreement that I wouldn't dig in the yard, she said I can do the rest of the...

Ya, I've been seeing some poison ivy popping up in the woods here
I have no plans on cleaning the iron part as there probably wouldn't be much left afterwards. And that is a good idea to try the back of the buckle first as I have found a few things that had silver...
Tony, besides the two Draped Bust coppers, I had found 2 other coppers which I am sure were much older but there wasn't any detail at all on the coins, totally smooth.
Mine rang up around 66, but with a high tone.
So, with this buckle, I really like it, but curious if I should leave it as is, or should I try to remove the green? I like as it is, but wonder if it would look better.. suggestions, opinions?

Thanks oxshoe..and you are correct. This area was settled by the Dutch in the 1600s. And the place I am hunting is just a couple hundred yards from the hudson.
Went back to the colonial farm again today, and once again she didn't let me down. Found a small tombac, and right at the end of day before I had to leave, a nice high tone. 1785 half reale Spanish...
Beside the GW button, here is everthing I had found Sunday & Monday of the presidents day weekend. Every time I think I've hunted out this farm, I find more..it has been an amazing place that I...
Went back to that colonial farm that I've been finding all those buttons, and I am not even going to bore you all those buttons, except for one. I finally did it! A George Washington Inaugural...
Beautiful Buckle
That is a sharp looking KG! Congrats
Great find! still looking for mine.
I had one other surprise come from that place, A damn tick.. found it on me this morning and it was latched onto me good. It has a red ring, so Now I have a Doctor appt to go to this afternoon...
Loving this mild winter we are having, got back out to the colonial farm, and hit a part of field which wasn't easy hunting. Lots of down trees and briers but managed to find a couple keepers. The...
The Wife asked me to take some wood to her aunt's house and I figured since I was there I would do some metal detecting in the woods. This place was built in the 1650s but have yet to find anything...
