Nice research on that one Dan! Don's find wasn't far from its origin, but the one I found made its way more than 100 miles where it was lost or buried.

Nice research on that one Dan! Don's find wasn't far from its origin, but the one I found made its way more than 100 miles where it was lost or buried.
It was a common design, but same period for sure. I found the exact same design made by a Philadelphia silversmith named James Watts.
If they had the same monogram it would be freaky!
Here is the exact one I found a few years back on Cape Cod.

I found the same exact one as your's a few years back, in Cape Cod MA. I really didn't spend much time researching it, but you sparked my interest a bit. I found a very similar eagle on another...
11 grams of 10K gold.
I found this ring yesterday in a new spot. I had scoped out the site earlier in the week and dug a Merc, an Indian and some Wheaties. Yesterday I dug a sterling earring, a junk St. Chris medallion...
Back in April I started a facebook group made up mostly of metal detecting enthusiasts worldwide who are interested in networking to help recover jewelry. We have had many new members who were...
Nice finds! Does your camera have a Macro mode? It is the tulip icon on the camera.
They are not much more than smooth disks, however I was able to see the telltale braids of the Wm & Wm Mary type coins. Here are some other shots that may help you get a better idea. Unfortunately...
The coins are cool, but those bottles are killer!
Great finds! Those Harrison buttons are scarce. Yours looks like time took care of it well.
The other item looks like the other part to one like mine (which is silver). I think it is the latch to...
Great finds. The nickel is a bit odd. It appears to have a cud (see photo)...It is also one of the years that have known counterfeits. Can you post a photo of the reverse?

I like the Chinese coin with the Phillies P on it |:cheering:

Looks like an 18th century Chinese coin.

Great finds!
Look inside the thimble for the hallmark. I was able to date this one to the 1870's.

Here are some of my better non-coin finds from 2012.
War of 1812 relics found in an old farm field that was hunted out.

1712 Pistareen! Not sure of the mint though. Sweet!
Here is a link that you will find useful: The Coins of Colonial and Early America: Spanish Silver....
Sometimes I go a long time without digging a colonial or early US copper, other times it seems like they jump out of the ground and into my pouch. That is the way this year has been going.

This is definitely an interesting find.
One thing is for sure: The writing is Hebrew, no doubt about that. But it appears to be formal hebrew, which is something I have not seen on ancient coins....
:)
No doubt that a Regal Copper would have hit pretty solid in the 80's. This thinny came in much lower as you can see. I am no expert in the varieties of the KG Counterfeits, but this one is...
MN: Not to make you jealous, but I found one coin 70 years older than this one, back in May of '08. That one was dated 1699!
Del, 99.9% of all the colonial coppers found here in the US are,...
I finally was able to get some detecting in this morning. I have my in-laws visiting from Florida, so I had to stay local. I hit a spot that has produced a lot of silver, and my goal today was to dig...
I think it is a large, flat button (not a dandy). Most likely early 1800's. Most dandies are thinner metal, had designs, and tend to be even larger than yours. I could be wrong tho. I have only dug a...
I think you may have an old poorly silver plated ring. I have found a few that looked like silver, but the finish peels off almost like foil, revealing the copper base metal. I have found these in...
Great post!
I recently got a V3. It is truely a learning experience, even compared to the DFX, which I love. I have not had a tremendous amount of time to detect lately due to many life events...
