Need help with an ID on this button.

This is not a metal detecting find!

The benchmark cannot be seen as it is covered up by the cloth still in the shank.

I do need help with the ID though. It's Civil War period, I just don't know what it is. Any and all help appreciated!

    Thanks for the info Del.

I searched NYC guard button and cannot find anything like it. Any chance you know of a link to ID it?

I'm looking to sell it and want to accurately represent what it is.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can provide a link to this button.

its listed in the Albert's book as a NY-101 New York City button so it could be either a city guard or police uniform button . the only picture i found of one is on ebay and they have it listed wrong as a NY.military button

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-YORK-CIT...-/370656332371

however the NY. Militia's and regular Army used different designed buttons for their uniforms . i'll see what i can find .
