This is not a metal detecting find!
The benchmark cannot be seen as it is covered up by the cloth still in the shank.
I do need help with the ID though. It's Civil War period, I just don't know what it is. Any and all help appreciated!

its a New York city guard uniform button , most likely post Civil War era

I searched NYC guard button and cannot find anything like it. Any chance you know of a link to ID it?
I'm looking to sell it and want to accurately represent what it is.

its listed in the Albert's book as a NY-101 New York City button so it could be either a city guard or police uniform button . the only picture i found of one is on ebay and they have it listed wrong as a NY.military button

however the NY. Militia's and regular Army used different designed buttons for their uniforms . i'll see what i can find .
