One of my best hunts in a long time!

    Hey diggers,

Woke up this morning to 51 degrees and was out the door bright and early. I didn't know where I was going so I decided to do some freestyling. I drove past an old farmhouse that I had driven past many times and decided today was the day I would knock on the door and ask permission. An older gentleman lived there alone and he was very nice and said I could MD. I couldn't help but notice the old brick foundation and 1850's style architecture as I went back to my car to get my gear.

I ended up MDing for 4 hours straight and only left because the weather was turning for the worse (I didn't care) and my kitchen pass had expired (happy wife, happy life). My first good coin was an 1868 IH penny at only 2 inches. It rang up as a 12-38 on the e-trac. It sounded just like a modern zinc penny but I have learned when you are at these really old houses you did everything.

I ended up with 4 silvers, a large cent (my 8th in 14 months), and some clad. I'm surprised I didn't find ANY wheaties! I still managed a dime trifecta and a penny trifecta though! I'll be posting a video later tonight. Here's some pics to make you wish it was spring already! Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

The first time I've ever had silver but no wheat pennies!

Rang up as 01-47 at 2 inches deep! What a shock to see this in the hole!

The soil was very kind to the pennies at this house. Another one found 2 inches deep!

My oldest ever Barber coin and in very good condition too (full LIBERTY)

The highest grade Barber I have EVER found. Still has mint luster. Just one small problem... she's been shot!

Just look at the detail on her head!

Oldest Coin: 100-60 BC Gallic bronze coin (Sequani Tribe)
Oldest Silver Coin: 1156 hammered Pfennig from (now) Bavaria
Oldest U.S. coin: 1805 Draped Bust Large Cent
Best Coins EVER: 1625 4 Sols from Kingdom of Chateau Renaud, France
    1662 15 Kreuzers, Leopold I, Austria
Best Relics: Bronze Age Arrowheads & Spearhead, 2c Roman silver ring, complete medieval knight's spur (x6)

You just HAD to outdo me today, didn't you? lol

    Awesome hunt, Dave!

Very nice 1868 Indian Head! I have yet to find one of that date, they are uncommon.

And holy cow, that Barber Quarter was BRAND NEW when it was shot! Are you going to leave it like that or attempt to flatten it?

Congrats also on the dime trifecta and nice Large Cent! You had an amazing day!

    Lifetime totals:

I'm not sure I outdid you! When I saw your post with all your finds I had to run down to the coin shop as quick as I could! rofl I'm going to leave the quarter as is. It would be at least a $100 coin if it wasn't shot! The IH goes for $37 in G4 condition. I'm really excited about this farm house. I can't wait for it to warm back up so I can hit it some more. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

The Barber quarter is fantastic! I also noticed your comment about more silver than Wheats. I have 6 silvers so far for 2013 with only 2 Wheaties.
    2017 Totals: 21 Clad / $1.85 / 1 Silver Coin / 2 Wheaties / 0 Rings

That barber is a thing of beauty. I've yet to dig one myself so you can imagine how green with envy I am! Nice work taking advantage of the warm weather and on getting permission to hunt a sweet spot!

Wow... very, very well done DD. <:
Super nice hunt, especially in January. Many nice keepers and silver.

The shot Barber is my favorite. Plus it's in beautiful shape. I can just imagine a couple of
beer buddies exiting a saloon in the first couple of years of 1900 saying... I'll bet you a beer you can't shoot this out of my hand. lol

Congratulations on a great hunt. The LC is a fantastic keeper.

Incredible hunt Dave. That silver is amazing!

Can you put that barber quarter on a solid surface and pound out the bend, or is it damaged beyond that? It is otherwise in terrific condition!
