    Did I find something good?

Is this a crotal bell? I've never found one before... Any way to accurately guess an age?

I should have taken a pic next to something for size... it's about 1 in diameter. Found about 10 down in a modern school yard. Took quite a while to pic all ther dirt out of it.

Hey Z, Congrats on your first Crotal bell (or sleigh bell) thumbsup01 It is one, and here is a link from our library on them. They are dateable, with a little bit of reading. Hope this helps and the are really cool looking considering it's probably at least 150 years old lol

Coinnut, thanks for the sweet link! The bell I found is decorated ont he lower half only. There is waht looks like a 2 stamped near the bottom. I can't figure out what's up with where the suspension loop would have been though... there's two nubs there but it doesn't look like a loop wore away...

I'm pretty excited by this find. I think it's safe to say this bell is at least 100 years old, right?

I would say it's at least hundred years old. I believe yours was put on by a hammered rivet type fastener and may be a bit newer than the late 1700's to early 1800's ones we find. But
I would give it at leats 100 years old due to the design. It's a nice crotal bell. Iron ball inside??

that is a nice croatal for sure. The 2 that is stamped on it indicates the size of the bell.

Congrats on a very cool crotal. I have yet to find one of these little jewels. The one you found looks in outstanding condition.
