Thread: 1891 Seated Dime & GOLD!

    1891 Seated Dime & GOLD!

Had an amazing pair of hunts today.

Started out at a new spot which ended up being an old dump site.

Every hole had brick, concrete, glass, you name it! There were overload signals all over the place. Strangely it wasn't too hard to hunt because there wasn't a lot of modern trash like pulltabs Okay, actually it was really hard to hunt, it was on a steep hill too, after 2 hours the muscles in my feet were even tired!

I was shocked when the 1891 seated dime came out after finding a wheat penny. Unfortunately the obverse (the side that was pointing up) has concrete all over it.

I found that chain that rang up a low tone, is has chunks of something stuck to it? The place was really weird with the finds. But okay in my book! I'm definitely going to go back and dig up a lot of the trash to see what's in there. I got an old makeup compact lid and some other interesting things. (Phone was a surface find and wouldn't power up)

I JUST missed and old 3 quarter silver spill by a few years. The 3 quarters in the first pic all came from one hole. 1965, 1967 & 1967. UGGH! They have really good detail and are old drops for sure. What can you do?

2nd hunt was my 3rd trip to a 1958 elementary school with a huge field in the back where I found 2 silver coins before.
Cleaning up house and digging all the nickels I hit a 3.7 gram 14k gold nugget ring!

What a shame on the dime but I guess the ring will make up for it. Congrats. Safe & HH

Beautiful gold ring, JD! What a terrific find!

I bet it was a pleasant surprise finding a seated dime there too! I would try Angel's cleaning method on it:

Super ring. Gold is mesmerizing Is that tar or concrete? I looked on You tube, and it seems white vinegar and water loosens it up, but that was when you get it on car paint.
