    Old mill coin spill

It took three times but Lee finally got me to find that colonial coin. I wanted to put that as the thread title. We got out yesterday to a site that hasn't been hit much apparently. On the way up to the dam, he found an area to check out. Along what he thought was a worker's path he found a wheat cent; I think the date was 1946. He found another signal, I checked it too. My machine said pull tab in the 30's range. Just higher than what a nickel would read. I walked away telling him I was sure pull tab, but it was a shotgun shell. Weird how mine always puts those in the nickel range, except for this time. After a minute I thought I found a good signal and Lee was squeeling, "oh Oh, I think I got something". I placed my trowel down to mark my spot to come back to it. I ran my machine over his spot, told him there were a few things in the hole. Becaue it was jumping a little, I told him there was definitely a coin, but there might also be iron. Twice he pulled out the dirt without knowing he also pulled out the coin too. Three King George III in the same hole!!! I was a little jealous at that point. I came back to my spot to only find out it was a ring pull tab. We went back to main path and started swinging. Only 5 min after he found his coins, I found something. I read almost the same with mostly steady readings and a few jumps. I started digging and it was tough. I first thought the sand and stones were from when the water was dammed up, but it was actually an old wagon road. Right on the edge of the road I popped out my own King George III and the iron near it that was giving the erratic signals. That made my day. His green patina one shows more details, but mine had a date, 1784. I completely bypassed the 1800's and jumped to colonial. Afterward he found only a clad dime, but it was getting late. On the way back I was noticing him checking out old houses on the way back. Apparently he is not satisfied. I ain't either! I'm eager to get back out.
