    The future of metal detecting

We will have robots and drones to do all of the work for us.

    The future looks bleak gentlemen.

They'll be unearthing rare items MD'ing 1000 years from now, like old cell phones and thumb drives. Of course no one will need pens to write with anymore, so old ball point pins may be considered a valuable find as well.

I was imagining a push mower type thing that hovered, no wheels, no swinging. A flat screen on top (where the engine on a mower would be)that showed everything under it in 3D. Just the slightest push and it would hover forward, over any terrain. You could read the date off coins at 6in. From 2 to 3 feet things would only appear in 2D. Hey, we could always improve.

Anything in the future that is dug up with a date will be valuable ... Say a credit card for instance.

That would be great, because it would mean they finally became somewhat rare!

Maybe Roomba will make a detector in the future. Set it out on a lawn or in a field before you leave for work, it putters around marking interesting targets all day, then you come home and dig them.
