First water hunt of the year and my first target =$$$

I was thinking to myself as I was driving home from work today that I hadn't done any water hunting yet this year. I checked out the tide charts and noticed a slight negative low tide this evening for 8:39pm. Perfect timing for an early evening water hunt.

Got to the beach at 6:30 strapped on my gear and made a B-line into the water until I was knee deep in it. Started surveying and feeling around for the lower hard packed areas and found a spot. My very first target I heard was a very faint whisper and about 4 scoops later I saw the glistening gold in the scoop. It's only 10k but still a nice signet ring. I should had left right then because for the next two hours all that found my scoop was fishing tackle, can slaw and a 1958 wheat penny.

    Very sweet gold ring, Todd!

I don't know why it is, but so often it seems that great finds come at the very beginning of a hunt, and then... nothing. Weird how that happens so often!

Congrats on your successful water hunt!

It happens to me because after a good find, I lose focus. I am more interested in getting home to clean it up and research that I don't hunt with 100% attention. Nice ring.

Great hunt Todd. I don't know what it is but I always like finding those old signet rings.

It doesn't matter if you're in the dirt or in the H2O, you're always on top of your game.

Excellent find Todd. Was the faint sound due to depth or because of it only being 10k? Haven't been lucky enough to find much gold so don't know if I have been passing some by, due to not digging them faint signals, but I had my share of silver finds. Congrats to ya.

The faint sound is due to the depth. These are the best signals for gold .

Both town and private. I am always in the water so private beaches are not an issue as the only own up to the high tide water line.

Wow what the salt water does to the pennies. Nice finds. I have yet to take mine to a beach. The detector has only a waterproof coil but it's not a beach machine. Good to know about the land rights versus water line.
