The leaves are changing nice here and so it was a beautiful day to be out in the woods. I went back to the site that I recovered King George's, Draped busts and a batwing buckle or two about a month ago and was pleasantly surprised to come away with all this today. These finds were all within an area no more than 40 by 40 and looking now at the place I found them its no surprise I did in that area since I believe some of the rocks there were placed purposely to make a foundation for an outbuilding on the old farm. I have video of almost every recovery using my new camera glasses and I will post then if it comes out half way decent. Thanks for looking happy hunting

sounds like the site is an "on grade " cabin site to me Gary , these often can be great overlooked sites loaded with keepers . congrats on all the colonial goodies

Nice finds. Any plan to clean 'Em up? Is the oval piece missing tabs? I had a similar piece that had two tabs on the back and the tabs were bent. It looked like it was for leather. One tab broke off before I even got it home and it was left with a hole. My interest Is peaked at how you determined a specific 40x40 area to hunt. I go first for areas like around entry ways to the house's or walkways if it's not at a cellar hole but only sometimes it works.

    Hi Mango
I will clean them up a bit, but not too much more. The oval item has two holes in it on either end. I have found others like it but not exactly sure (meaning I have no clue at the moment) how they were used. Each one though just had the holes. Oh, this one has some engraving around the edges to fancy it up a bit.

Good question about how I came up with the 40 x 40 area. When I first found the area I ended up coming upon it right in the middle between the cellar hole ( which I didn't know was there at the time) and the field they had for crops. The two are separated by about a hundred feet or so with the cellar hole around a rise and out of view. I had just started detecting the field area (surrounded by stone walls) near a watery spot and found a NJ copper, and several other large cents. I figured I was in the right place and kept detecting. I spent a lot of time detecting that area finding buttons, coins, etc. still oblivious to the fact that this wasn't the newer or possibly primary residence. Towards the end of that hunt I wandered around and found the cellar hole itself and found a couple beautiful buckles, dandy buttons, etc. .
I beat that area pretty hard though and so I figured I would go back to the field area and try it again. That is when I just happened to try around the area that I now believe is the possible site of the At Grade cabin like Del suggested.. It really just appears to be a few rocks thrown together but, it must have been more.
So in the end, if I hadn't came upon the site the way I did I may have never or found this cabin site, or at the least it would have taken me longer to do so.

    Hi GKman

    Nice diggs!

Were you finding much in the way of cut nails or other old rusty iron?

Thanks Bear. I had a handful of lead bullets and square nails along with one piece of iron that was oval and about eight inches long. The site is very clean.
