    Winter woods hunting

For those who live in cold snowy states there is a place to hunt that can pay off quite nicely. THE WOODS!

I have been out several times this year in the woods in an old park near the fairgrounds. My first time out I got 4 wheat pennies and an 1834 L.C.

On the 17th I found something that made my year already. Bundle up and get out there!

Was the fair as far back as early 1900's? Or the park is the old thing and fairs have been only recently? Thats a crazy find. Shows they had coins still in circulation for 40+ years back then.

Wow, what an incredible find! Great variety of coins in that case! We all dream of finding some kind of case that contains old coins but rarely does it happen. I love these types of finds because they give us a glimpse of what kinds of coins were circulating together. It's interesting that an 1874 Indian Head was still in circulation in 1914. Very cool that there was an 1894-S Barber Quarter in there also!

And I'll tell you what, the case itself is pretty cool too!

    Congrats on the wonderful find!

Great find and I can imagine your excitement when you opened it up and saw coins inside. It's interesting the different variety of coins folks carried around back then.

A very interesting find RazR. My mother had a coin/key case similar to that one. I can't believe the coins were in it and in relatively good shape. Congratulations.

Very cool find. It must have been an awesome surprise to see coins still inside.
I guess you can call that a contained coin spill.
