Not my area of expertise, but could it be a butt plate from a musket or long rifle?

The few spear points posted on here were definitely different shape than this. It is still possible tho if the hole in it was used for mounting. Short tip.
It could be a butt plate like Tony said but if it's broken at the bottom. Obviously it being broken is why it would be in the dirt but usually they are L shaped. The one I found looks similar with no design and the hole is in a similar place...but there's also the perpendicular piece.
