    Civil war eagle button

    Find of the day.
A general army service button Tice gen215a30 from 1840s to 1865. I literally climbed up a cliff to get to the site and that was after shimmying across a log over a frigid creek.... I had detected here years ago. probably before some of our younger members were born. At the time it was a virgin site and I was lucky enough to pull a flying eagle cent out of the ground at the time. Fortunately there are still more finds to be made there

That's a beautiful general service button! It's in great shape with a straight shank. So often they are bent.

That's one nice eagle button you have there. I love finding them (even though I've only found one ) cause of the history and stories it could tell. A wonderful piece of history there. Congrats!

Not just like Tony mentioned with the shank, but the rolled edge is still in good shape and the writing legible. There was a place I hit where there was a separate town owned parcel near a park. It was directly behind a late 1700's house. Took a log across a brook and climbed up a steep hill. Only to find the grass was so over grown that it was too hard to swing and managed to find a Model A pickup chassis otw back.
