Colonial coin, buckles, draped bust and New York state militia button

CtTodd and I had a great day detecting. We went back to a field that we had detected at last fall with good results. Today we walked away with another great handful of finds . We both found many buttons dating from the late 1700 to early 1800s . Todd found a nice buckle and a draped bust large cent and a couple more coronet head large cents. Some of his buttons had some nice detail on them also.

I found a Connecticut copper and 3 other large cents one is 1814 and the other 1843 , two thimbles and a New York militia Excelsior button that dates from about 1792 to 1820 or so.

amazingly the ground was still frozen in some places. We can't wait for the farmer to turn the field over to bring some new things to the surface

not a problem Gary , was happy to help out and see a great button like this . the one book says it may have a treble gilt/orange or H. Wishart back mark .

I'm very hopeful it has a lot of the silver plating left on it Gary , please post a picture when you clean the dirt off .

...OK. Now I don't have to ask about pics of the other finds cleaned up. They were further down the thread. The matrons have some nice detail and the copper has above average detail. Nice score. I'm sure the button is in olive oil and gonna take a while to clean up.

Del, The front has quite a bit of the silver plating left, but the back doesn't and I do not see a backmark. Possibly it is obliterated by time or perhaps it never had one? I am reluctant to do any further cleaning on it since the encrustation is quite hard.

That's one generous field you got there. A nice mix of colonial and 19th century relics. Hope the farmer can help bring you some more goodies to the surface when he plows it. HH
