Help identifying targets with the CTX

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone with their vast knowledge and experience on the CTX 3030 might be able to give some advice on the best settings for spreading out the VDI readings on targets.
I was able to locate a list the combined ferrous/coin readings on a good variety of coin targets, but what I have noticed is that almost everything is in the same range. For example, almost all silver coins come in as 12-45 in Fe-Co separation, plus or minus maybe 2 points depending on condition. Lincoln zinc pennies also read 12-45 on my machine, as does almost all clad I have found thus far. Maybe I should try the high trash separation mode? I have seen on the published VDI charts the scale can be a bit more pronounced, and VDI's are often quite different from FeCo.
I can say that so far I am greatly impressed with the machine, and have been able to find masked coins my X-Terra missed in areas I have been over many times. The test area is my yard around the farm where I have just tons of nails and other buried trash, lots of iron, etc. Is this typical for the CTX, or am I just used to my X-Terra where I can read the VDI for a penny at 32, dime at 38, quarter at 42, and so forth. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi DOD - The Merc dimes I have been getting were 12-43/44 pending on the depth. Copper pennies at 5-9" are coming in at 12-45 on my machine. Wheats at 5-9" are usually 12-40 (all I have found so far are 1940s). Zinc typically have been 12-37/38/39. I use the coin mode, Fe-CO. I have my sensitivity on Auto +3 and that seems to work good for me. I don't use discrim at all. That is my next chapter in the education of this machine.

Thanks for the reply, but it's an old post. Got it figured out since then as I eventually found a nice chart online that I printed out and used for a reference. I have since added more to the list as I run across more info or find something unusual.

Digger, where did you find the chart, or would you mind sharing it ? ctdirtdigger@gmail.com

I just got my CTX 3030 and I think a chart like you describe would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
