Well about a week ago I had found this at a site which dates back to the late 1700's, but the land has been hunted, lived, and walked on for hundreds and thousands of years by the Lenape Native American Tribes. This house site is surrounded by wide open fields that have been previously hunted by Native American Artifact hunters and I believe have found artifacts according to the land owner in the exact area. Not to mention only 5-10 minutes away where I found my first point in a hole at an old home site. This area has also been known to give up hundreds of points and other artifacts in the towns fields. Anyways I was digging my hole right against the field and found this in it. At first I wasn't exactly sure what it was but when I got home I was thinking it was a pipe stem fragment. After doing some research, asking friends, and talking to a professional in Native American artifacts I was able to verify this as not only a pipe fragment, but one handmade by a Native American! The Native Americans were known to use red clay for pipes and etc. With talking to a professional he recognized it and said that it was from a pipe known as a "Trumpet Pipe" which you can see in the photos. My fragment on the bigger hole size would be the side where it was just starting to curve up. He presumed it to be made likely in the 1400-1600 range. I am still in awe! Can you imagine the things this has seen? The beautiful fresh scenery of that time before America was really even known about. The villages and the Native American culture. Absolutely blows me away! Definitely my favorite Native American find to date! Now for the photos!
