My First pre 1800s British silver

My first pre 1800s, and I basically skipped the entire 1700s with a William III Shilling! (1695-1701) It certainly shows the wear from being around a very long time, but I'll take it. Even a little countermark as a bonus.

Going the entire Fall without a single early silver coin it was damn good seeing it stuck to my shovel. I took the pic and even sent a text before I picked it up to see what it was. Gotta enjoy it when it's the only one.

Nice finds. At least there's enough detail to tell what kind of coin it is. What was the purpose of a countermark?

I know the feeling. Had mine this year too. A 1696 William III shilling in NY State. INCREDIBLE FEELING !! And it was the last find of the day for me. Super glad for you. Thanks for sharing.
