    Shallow Water Silver And Gold

For a change of pace I took out my Excalibur for some shallow water detecting at a lake. It's been over a year since I have done so, and it felt really good to finally get the Excalibur working. I met up with John (midas) at the site at 6:00 am, and we detected until about 11:00. We both did well with finds.

I picked up three sterling silver rings, two 10k gold rings, several wheat cents, three buffalo nickels, and seven silver coins, three of them Standing Liberty quarters.

The silver coins should clean up well using the baking soda and aluminum foil trick. I'm hoping to make out the dates on two of the Standing Liberty quarters once the sulfide is removed.

    The rings and a crucifix.

This sterling silver Girl Scout ring is a very nice piece.

The nickels do tend to hold up better in the water.

    As do the wheat cents.

    HH!

Water Hunting?? You can't do that ...but You dig good Nice triple SLQ. You have a great place that was popular in the 20's. Love the condition of the wheats. they are actually readable and clean...something I'm not used to Nice hunt!

Nice finds! It does seem like a long time since you have been in the water. A couple of years ago, most of your detecting was in the water.

That is a great girl scout ring. I like it

I couldn't resist. John and I had a great time out there.

    Nice diggin's, Angel!

Headed back to the water tomorrow with a small group of friends. Small outing. Don't know how much detecting I'll get in, but we'll see.

Love finding those old coins in the water.

Honestly, I'm not doing anything others can't do.

It did feel great, Dan! The sun was kicking, but it was very comfortable and cool in the water.

    Thanks!

It varied, but most were from chest to neck deep water.

That's about where we find most of our stuff as well.... chest to just over the head. I gotta quit getting out too deep. I extend the shaft of my detector to as far as it will go so it's barely touching the ground and my face is in the water with my snorkel on. Tough going out there sometimes.
