    Detecting with Don & Alec

    Hey Diggers,
Sunday I drove up north and met Don and Alec for some great detecting. It was a town I had never been to. We asked at 5 houses and got permission at all 5! I found a couple keepers.

A very toasty 1837 large cent came from 9 inches down in a yard that had been detected before (same yard Alec got his 2 cent coin).

A very nice 1913 Barber dime (over 50 barber dimes found and this is my first 1913).

A silver St. Christopher Medal with names engraved on the back (The home owner and neighbors did not recognize the names).

An early token for the Machen Bros in Galesburg, Ill. A little research shows the brothers were born in 1884 and 1885. One died in 1918 and the other died in 1961 (the year I was born). The front of the token bears a song title that was popular between 1912 and 1920 (picture of sheet music at end of this post).

2 marbles! Each found in a different hole but both found with trash (no coins).

Hey Dave, it was great getting together again. That Barber Dime looks great and that token really cleaned up nice. Next time we'll start on the older part of town. The people in that town seem to be very friendly. Congrats again on all the nice finds.
See ya in October! Maybe sooner?

Lots of great finds, especially that Barber! Very nice LC despite being holed and toasty. I would be very curious to hear that music, very different from the usual

Great job Dave!! Why would a token have a song name on it? I just looked up the Barber dime mintages and 1913 is the largest. Odd you haven't found one!...until now! Nice diggin Dave!

Got yourself some nice keepers. I just went and checked my Barber dimes, only have 16 but still no 1913.
Marbles are always a treat in my eyes and yours look old. Any LC, holed or not, toasted or not is a great find. Congrats

Excellent finds. That Barber has some prime detail.

I listened to Jimmy Driftwood and that's a good ole song. The rendition by Gid Tanner and The Skillit Lickers is a hoot too.
