    Another Complete Shoebuckle

Went out briefly with Jim (RIdirtdigger) on Saturday and returned to a cellar hole we'd been to in the past. Finds came along slowly, and it seems like we did a pretty good job our first time there not leaving any obvious signals. Eventually I came across a loud, solid 60-70's signal on my MXT Pro, right behind a large rock wall. Partially expecting a big piece of iron, it was repeatable enough to dig anyways. I spent a good 10 minutes digging through roots and prying out big rocks until I eventually saw the obvious shape of a shoebuckle frame. I got an in-situ picture of it and then popped it out, surprised to see that it was complete!

The pins move around loosely, it's got a nice pattern and it's comprised of some weird metallic alloy that looks kind of like tombac... but I'm not sure.

Wow, excellent find Sam! You're really nabbing the goods lately. Could the Tombac looking surface be applied silver? I know some of the buckles were made that way.

Thank you John! I don't think it's silver plated. The material on the other side of the buckle looks very similar to tombac, which is strange.

great buckle Sam , it may have a bit of silver "tinning" left on it to make it look like that , very doubtful a buckle that large would be made out of tombac. I hope to see it in person someday . congrats again .

Nice buckle. I would be doubtful of any buckle being made of tombac. Weren't they too brittle to begin with? I know the crotals from the early-mid 1800s were made of an alloy like tombac that had the brass. They come out green but clean up only with some vinegar and look dull grey. idk.
Future goals: Capped bust coin, Flowing hair LC, Classic head LC, VT copper, MA copper, Pistareen, Two-cent pc, SLQ, GW inaugural button, Excelsior button, Civil war token, and a gold ring.
